Class was confusing but professor is super kind. She genuinely cares about students and will give you good feedback if you ask her for help. There were def times when the readings/assignments confused me... but she was helpful during office hours.

There is weekly homework, but it is graded on a turn in/not turn in basis so do not worry about the amount! It is pretty confusing but grading is designed for everyone to do well. Not like other CLIT classes, attendance is mandatory, but she is pretty interesting. This class is meant to be confusing and it is!

this class was probably the worst class I've sat through since being here. I could see how it could be interesting to others but not what I was expecting for a comparative literature class. Hard to stay engaged and she has a hard time with tech. seems like she cares and is nice but just make sure ya'll know what you're getting into.

Great professor, highly recommend. Participation 25% with iclicker, which was a bit annoying, but lectures were fascinating and it was worth it. Also gave extra credit opportunities with discussion posts. 37.5% final paper and 37.5% final, but the final got cancelled with the TA strike (this was fall 2022) and she gave everyone an A on it.

Prof Vagt's class is awesome because she has material to provide if you want to get in depth but it seemed also the people who weren't super into c lit didn't struggle to complete the course. she provided both online and synchronous lectures for the split quarter which was great. gives a lot of constructive feedback. definitely recommend!

Professor Vagt is very elegant and caring. She gives inspiring lectures and you will learn a lot from her. TA s are also very nice and caring. An easy A if you go to the lecture and do the readings. Overall an amazing learning experience.

She's very passionate about the subject and expects you do the readings, but she doesn't make your life too difficult. Go to her office hours! I learned so much from her during those talks and she offers genuine help. If you do the readings and write well it should be an easy A.

Chill class. The readings were a little confusing, but showing up to lecture clarifies anything you might be stuck on. Midterm, Final, and a 1800 word paper due dead week. Overall very doable as long as you have an idea of the readings/authors.

Going to lecture is so helpful especially because the reading material is really hard to comprehend on your own. Professor Vagt tries hard to make sure you understand the content and is good at making sure of it. I admired how she viewed these philosophies and was able to make me rethink what I thought I knew about the world and our interactions.

Vagt is a great professor, super nice lady. You can pretty much wikipedia most of the readings if you can't understand them or just dont have time for a 10 page reading. Also if u miss class there are slides. AS long as you do the readings and pay attention to some details you will pass the class. A grade totally possible just put in effort.

Midterm and final are doable but I had a good TA who really helped us prepare. I think this wasn't the case with all sections. Lecture is really important as readings are complicated philosophy that doesn't make a lot of sense without her explanations but she is good at explaining. There was an EC assignment and a pretty long paper too.

I cannot recommend this class and professor highly enough. I have an entirely new world view because of this class. She is brilliant, caring, funny. If you go into her during office hours she is not only helpful but goes above and beyond. She is invested not only in you as a student, but you as a learner and person existing in the world. Incredible

Best professor I've had at UCSB. She picks very interesting reading material for the students and leads very thoughtful discussions in lecture. This class definitely made me have a better appreciation for comparative literature. I like how she is open to multiple interpretations in her essays. She is also a lenient grader which is super nice.

Definitely one of the nicest professors I've gotten at this school. She is super knowledgeable about each topic and does a good job explaining the material. Her voice is kinda soft quiet make sure you keep yourself awake in class. The readings were a little tough to understand at first, but if you do them before class her lecture clears it up.

Took this as a GE. Lectures were always super interesting. Doesn't put a lot on slides but records lectures and posts them afterwards. Tests were very straightforward, she isn't trying to trick anyone, simply tests on the main topics of material assigned for reading and gone over in lecture. Overall very laid-back, interesting, and enjoyable class.
