I learned a lot from this class but I need to emphasize that it is not easy to get an A in, look at the DailyNexus grade search. I really recommend taking this class Pass/No Pass because the two exams where you write 3 short essays make up 80% of your grade and it is very difficult to get an A in especially since the TA's 20% is difficulttopredict.
Professor Fujino is very passionate about what she teaches and is amazing at teaching. I think the only thing I disliked was how exam heavy this class was, 80% of your grade is just exams and I just felt like that's poorly structured. Needless to say my TA Colin Sibley was amazing too and thanks to him I actually passed this class.
prof fujino is passionate and an expert in her field, i totally enjoyed the class but the midterm/final grading was unnecessarily tough and expects more than what the question asks (like you can read the TAs minds). generous reading amount and lectures are important. colin sibley was a great TA though! wish i took it pass/fail for GE
Professor Fujino gave very engaging and well-rounded lectures, always incorporated the overall themes into material. The exams were a bit complex and very detail-oriented, more than I had anticipated for a GE class. Readings are highly emphasized.
This professor and her materials are just OK and the grading easily makes AS AM 9 a class you DON'T wanna take. Everybody got a C to B-. Efforts were ridiculously ignored. Tons of reading every week. You have to discuss and present in section to actually get POINTs. Short essays for midterm and final compose 80% of the grade. Just DON'T.
Professor Fujino has to be one of my favorite professors. She is very passionate. Her lectures are full of information and she keeps it interesting. The class covers important material, but for the final and midterm she looks for specific details in the essays, so make sure you learn specifics.
Fujino is amazing and go to her office hours she is super helpful if you are looking for help in class or outside projects you want to work on with her. Lectures are very informative, learned a lot from this class. Tests were easy, but grading criteria was not clear between TAs. Attend lecture because she does not post slides!
Fujino is an amazing lecturer and you can tell that she genuinely cares about the material. This class was eye-opening and the material she assigned was interesting (although long to read). Really makes you work for an A, though. Heavy reading and requires a lot of critical thinking/analysis. Somehow, the class didn't feel like alot of work though.
Only good things to say! Fujino is an amazing professor with extensive background on the topics she discusses- Race & Resistance (asam9) was the best class I've taken & changed my perspective on the world. 2 short essays & midterm & final, studying is relatively easy if you go to lecture & engage in section. Katherine Lee is a great TA as well!
Race & Resistance is by far the most important class I've EVER taken @ ucsb. This class opened my eyes & changed my life. Professor Fujino is really passionate about the material & is the sweetest person on earth. Everyone I know who took this class said it was one of the best classes they've ever taken. PLEASE take this class, you won't regret it!
Fujino is one of the best professors at UCSB. She is so smart and I learn so much from her. If you don't like to think then don't take her classes and don't waste her time.
AWESOME PROFESSOR! she engages you in conversation, grabs your interests and encourages class participation to grasp concepts. you struggle a little with the concepts but she is more than willing to help you out to clarify. such an empowering class and very very educational. i could not have asked for better asian am classes!
awesome, just awesome!
Fujino is the bomb! Not only does she encourage reading and such, but she always tries to pull some real life experience into the mix. She's definitely an inspiration to the As Am department and one I recommend!
Fujino is kick ass!...all her topics are interesting i reccomend all you other students looking this up to take any fujino class cuz they all rock!...one of the reasons why going to UCSB rocks
Unreal professor, she is highly well respected in the academic community and gives amazing lectures. Super sweet lady, very approachable and understanding. Gave great insight and actually recommended a book for my final paper I really enjoyed. definitely reccomend.
Her lectures are the most important! She assigns a ton of readings which are definitely interesting, but I didn't read most of them and still passed the class with an A-. Just need to skim them for section & rely on lecture material for the midterm and final.
If you don't like reading, don't take this class as there is tons of reading each week. Fujino was an overall good lecturer but her voice is pretty droning. Have knocked out in lecture a couple of times. Get a good TA and you'll do great. Also, don't take this as an "easy GE" because their grading criteria on midterm and final were pretty specific.
Pretty interesting class but there was sooo much reading. And she doesn't go over all of the readings in class, so you pretty much do have to read them all. She doesn't clearly lay out what is going to be on the exams and I really didn't know what to expect going into them.
Ok teacher. Decent class, except had high expectations for the midterm and final. There is also a big paper, even though the class doesn't give you writing credit. Lots of reading. Make sure you get a good TA. Explained most things well. If you go to class, and actually try you'll be fine. Only hard things were midterm and paper.
If you're at all interested in gender and sexuality then take this class! I took it for the ethnicity requirement and I am so glad I did. Prof. Fujino is very clear from what she expects of you and is very nice and approachable. The readings are posted on gauchospace and you should at least skim them for the midterm and final. Recommended!!
Absolutely loved this class. If you're at all interested in gender/sexuality/racism in history and the world today, TAKE THIS CLASS. Prof Fujino is very engaging and the readings were fairly interesting. Took it for the ethnicity requirement and walked away with a different outlook on the world. Loved it and loved her. Would take again.
What a horrible professor. The information she presented was boring and was inaccurate or could have been easily argued inaccurate. I CAN"T BELIEVE THEY MADE HER DEPARTMENT CHAIR. They has to be someone else who can adequately run the Asian American Department
What a horrible professor. She was unclear about what the expectations were for the papers and for the essays on the test. She expected us to know exactly what she wanted. Her TA's did the best that they could but she gave horrible instructions to them. The TA's didn't even know what she wanted. Her class was really confusing. Don't take it
