He's in retirement mode. Everything he offers is online, and sections aren't mandatory. I can't do STEM classes online, especially bio, so I didn't expect the class to be completely online for the spring. If you struggle with online classes like these, I wish you good luck.

This guy covers so much content it's ridiculous. And since lectures are videos, he has no respect for time and goes over way more info than professors would normally in class. Additionally, the material is not organized as well as it should be for a course so dense. The test questions are fair, but difficult due to the amount of content.

Took this over summer with pre recorded lecture vids and in person exams. Accessible in OH but it was mostly managed by the TAs. Sections were pretty useless for anything but knowing a couple exam qs. He's a sweet guy but I def would not have been able to get an A- if I took this during the year because it's rlly lecture heavy. P good curve though

This was an async class where you could go the whole course without actually talking to Thrower. He would explain things in OH but the main interaction was his TAs. His tests were horrendous and it's a test heavy class. Very in depth multiple choice that made it look like you hadn't even studied. Truly tough, I don't know how people succeeded.

Nice guy but not very good at explaining things. Goes into a lot of depth and random tangents. Would be a lot better with less yapping and more focus on the important stuff. Also doesn't point at what he's talking about in the slides and slides are loaded with information so have fun pausing all his videos to figure out what he's talking about.

He is for sure in the retirement mindset. The class was a mess. There were regrades on all quizzes and tests, all of our lectures were over 2 years old and thus did not align with our homework, and on weeks where we had midterms he would "give us a break" from lecture but assigned twice as many the following week.

Professor is probably on retirement mode and you can tell. Isn't even at SB just has lectures made probably during COVID and still uses them instead of actually teaching. Videos are also really hard to go through, constantly smacking his lips and pausing so flow of info is always scattered. Not a bad class or person at all, just mildly irritating.

Dr. Thrower is seriously so sweet. I don't know why he has some bad reviews, but he is actually a professor with compassion and wants his students to succeed. Physio is a hard subject, but if you really put in the work, it's not hard to get a good grade in this course. Both exams were curved pretty generously.

Very decent prof and easy to get a good grade. If you study the lectures, make a ton of flashcards throughout the course, and do the study guides/look at past finals on coursehero you will get an A; 20% curve on the midterm and fat curve for the final. He's teaching it online now (in-person tests tho); obvious choice when Low is the other prof

Hes a really nice guy, that is apparent by the way he talks to students and accomodates the class. Hes very bad at technology, his lectures are super dense and his cadence is a little boring. He also says "uh" every sentence and smacks his lips which is a pet peeve, it really makes it hard for me to listen to him since I noticed it. average prof

Very fair teacher; makes the amount of work needed to do well super clear. Not a lot of surprises. If you try hard youll do well, but if you slack off or even convince yourself for a second that the class is easy, you won't do too hot

A lot of negative reviews are generally from students that didn't put in the effort required and want to blame anything but themselves. This is a UD bio course at a top 5 public university, not to mention a UC. It's going to be hard. BUT if you do the required work, study effectively , and pay attention in lecture, you WILL do well.

I had him for human physio and the entire pharm series. All I gotta say is that if you study, you will get an A in his classes. Lots of memorization, but no curveballs as long as you study. Will miss this guy, real gem of a professor.

Class structure's pretty average, solely based on exams. Thrower is a very knowledgable professor, teaching multiple MCDB classes & knows a lot about the subject. He's very accessible outside class & really cares wants you to succeed (the fact that he has office hours like 4 days a week). Attendance not mandatory but extra credit iclickers if u go

there's iClickers but lecture is actually useful. typical thrower class where it's hard for him to keep you awake but if you do, he really knows his stuff. he responds to emails pretty well but his TA tends to be useless

Thrower was a fine teacher for biochem C. This was Thrower's first year of teaching biochem in 10 years, so I can see why things weren't so smooth. However, his tests aren't that hard and are VERY fair. The people who complain are lazy students who only wants to know material that will be on the test. Understand the problem sets and you'll be fine!

Great for genetics, 101A, but is awful with biochemistry. He constantly second guesses himself, so he appears to not even know the material well. He also seems incredibly disinterested while teaching. His class consists of throwing a ton of information, like pathways and enzyme names, for no apparent reason and no interconnecting themes. Awful.

I loved Dr. Thrower for genetics, but this class is absolutely awful and DEATHLY BORING. He sounds like he doesn't even know what he's talking about half the time. Lectures cram in way too much material, so this class involves ridiculous amounts of memorization for pathways that you won't be able to remember 2 days after the test anyway.

Thrower is such a great professor. I had him for 101A and I took 126A for fun. Pharmacology ROCKED. We learned about all different types of drugs and I see them on TV commercials all the time! Just a lot of memorization. But if you want to go to med school, this class is fantastic

Pretty awesome professor. Very clear dialogue, knows what he is talking about, and he is super nice. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a good bio professor.

Very nice professor, although quizzes are quite hard. Wouldn't recommend taking during summer.

Go to Thrower's office hours, he is very helpful and is always there for his students. He also answers e-mails very quickly. He has fair tests. Not hard as long as you know the lecture notes well. The tests aren't that difficult themselves, but the information that you need to remember is a LOT! Lots of drugs and diseases that appear multiple places.

Nicest and sweetest professor in the MCDB major. Oncology was the coolest class I took in MCDB, and I thought 138 was awesome. Treats his students well, gives us all the notes and makes us study guides! Thrower loves when you ask questions. Final was not what I expected but study well, integrate everything and you're golden!
