Maybe the best class I've taken at UCSB! Kip really cares about his students and puts a lot into his teaching. Personal Narrative is an amazing class where you learn a lot about yourself and how to incorporate this into your own art. We took field trips, had guest lecturers, watched videos...kips an awesome teacher! I want to take the class again!
The lectures were really interesting, but if you miss just one class you will loose 10% off your total grade, unless you write a 5 page paper to make up for it.
i hated this guy and hes like obsessed with himself he thinks hes like the coolest guy ever but really hes just a jerk dont ever take 7A and it should be called dramatic art not studio you dont even paint anything seriously the worst quarter of my life

Very interesting class, and Spickard is one of the best professors on campus. He is extremely helpful and the exams are extremely fair. There is a lot of reading but if you are at all interested in the subject I would highly recommend the class
Tests are just what you expect, so there's plenty to write about. Complaint though is that I didn't feel like I learned much and he is too leftwing. Basically the point of the class is that the White man committed genocide (when taking the US) and only White people are Americans. Easy to get a B in this class.
pointless. art rhymes with fart. I read paper bullets, he's so (not) hot. despite that, great lecture. Laughed my ass off 1/3 of the time and I liked other artists work, not his. Papier ****.
Probably my best teacher in four years as a UCSB History major. Outstanding lectures. A lot of reading is required for the class; however, Professor Spickard is VERY easy to talk to, and was exceptionally helpful with my proseminar research project. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Kip, while glib, really encouraged me and others to push our boundaries.

By far one of the best teachers on campus. Learned a lot and kept the lectures fun. Am taking a class outside of major just to have him again.
Totally into himself.. gag!
he's a great performer/lecturer. He makes the lecture interesting. He didn't much participate in the sections & that was a shame.

I think what draws the curious minds of his students more than anything is Kip's unexpected approaches to teaching. He has a particular ability to mold the outlandish with the quite simple, and the invasive with the liberal. He pulls no punches, and will
Very engaging and fun lectures. Teaching style is very entertaining. Class subject matter is fun and exciting...I was the Horny Bear for the personal space project Spring 2004...what more can I say?
kip is concieted as hell..
the class is pointless, you learn nothing yet its requiered. your experience of the class has eveything to do with your ta. make sure you pick a good one cause they grade you.
Kip rocks! His lectures challenge you to think and create projects outside the box; waaaay outside of the box! He's a fun man to get to know and will teach you a lot about respecting yourself and others.
Kip is a one of the best teachers from whom I've ever had the good fortune to learn. If you have the chance to take his class, do it. You won't regret it.

He's an awesome lecturer, insightful, very helpful, and actively participates in the sections. I want to do an independant study with him.
Great Teacher, is lots of fun in lecture.Spends half the lecture discussing current politics, but also covers materials. Actually read all the material, because the subsequent discussions were great.Very helpful after class and works with you on papers. Favorite professor, have had him twice, make my schedule around his classes.
Liked the class. Yes, very opinionated! READINGS: interesting, the hardest part, do 90% of it. Be able to connect concepts/ideas, thats what he tests on. A lot has to do with the TA, so have a good one. It can be hard to follow his lectures, but he was interesting to listen to. Study for the tests, IDs are random (some from lecture, some not).
