Good overall professor very funny, nice and welcoming. The class has quite a bit of “busy work” but is still pretty manageable. The professor is lenient and understanding.

Dr. Ernst is one of the kindest professors I've had! All our assignments are very clear and he is very understanding in regards to extensions and absences if you're sick or just need a mental health day. The assignments were interesting and honestly not too hard because he explains everything very well. Loved his class, definitely recommend!

Prof Ernst is by far, the kindest professor I've ever had. He gives a clear schedule of what we do each week from the start of the class and he's really understanding (offers and even encourages extensions). I've gotten extremely stressed from other classes, but Prof Ernst helped a lot by offering extensions. I can't recommend his class enough!

I am currently taking him for writing 2, such an amazing professor. I've had struggles this quarter taking chemistry, so his class feels like a breeze. It's not very demanding and he does a great job explaining assignments and what he is looking for. Writing is enjoyable in this class and not excessive. He is also very understanding and helpful!

107WC: Professor Ernst is one of the most caring professors I've had at UCSB. He provides detailed feedback and actually takes the time to go through EACH of your assignments. He splits things into low and heavy-stakes assignments where one is graded on completion and one on content. This is a great balance I believe all classes should take after!

I really enjoyed having him as a teacher for 105R. I would not consider myself as someone who likes writing but I genuinely enjoyed this class. He is a great teacher and gives really good feedback. He is easily the best writing professor I've had at UCSB.

I HATE writing. But he made it bearable. The class was long and semi-boring sometimes but if you couldn't go he would send updates which was helpful. Three big assignments with a small 2 paragraph response every week and lots of peer reviews. Fair grader and gave really good feedback.

Super passionate and a great professor! Always willing to help. Not a difficult class, really interesting subject material too. No need for any coding experience beforehand! Class is made up of forum posts, readings, coding experiments, a group project, and a few papers.

Most passionate I've had at this school and he's committed to making his class valuable to you. Very accessible outside class and one of the nicest and happiest guys I've met. Really cares about his students, and emphasizes learning over grades. Gives great feedback on papers, grading criteria is fair. Absolutely take a course with him if you can

Best teacher I've had at UCSB!!! His Rhetoric class was exceptional. Learned a ton about arguing and rhetorical analysis which is crucial to any major at UCSB and a great life skill. Ernst was polite, energetic, and passionate about the subject. You will get the grade you put into the class. He is a fair grader but FOLLOW THE RUBRIC!

Ernst is one of the most endearing writing professors in the department. His essays are tightly graded but his nice personality makes it feel a lot more manageable. Yes his lectures are not that crucial in the later half of the year but do note that you have to give a self-assessed participation grade worth 15% which he will check.

Ernst is a great and caring professor. You can tell he genuinely wants every student to succeed and will accommodate you. He is very lenient and extends due dates and grades fairly. You can tell he's very passionate about what he does. He also holds several office hours where you can talk to him. Take his class!!

I LOVED this class !! Professor Ernst is amazing. He seems super passionate and cares about his students. super flexible and gives work that is enjoyable. I used to hate writing and was not confident in my writing. Professor Ernst has changed that for me completely. I enjoy writing in this class and feel so much more confident. BEST PROFESSOR!!

Prof. Ettenberg gives amazing lectures, very interesting, and also very important since the exams are 60% lecture and 40% textbook. The textbook is mandatory and a lot to read, but its pretty easy and understandable. 1 midterm and 1 final - very specific though so dont take it lightly. But the material is not that hard.

He is an amazing professor. Out of all the professors I've had he is by far my most favorite professor. He is super caring and makes sure that everyone understands what is expected.

Ernst is the best! He grades fairly easy and gives great feedback. He really cares about improvement, which I feel like I have done. Three papers throughout the course. He doesn't have strict guidelines, so you have a lot of freedom to write about what you want. Weekly 300 word entires which are super open ended and fun! LOVE THIS GUY! TAKE HIM!

ernst is a gem, class is never boring and he actually cares for his students. when you turn in essay's he bring sweets to make it fun. Only 3 papers needed in the entire class and the final is easy if you dont procrastinate, a fun and easy class overall

Dr. Ernst is one of the best professors at UCSB. He definitely makes those two hours pass by real quick. He is also tremendously passionate about his job. There are three major essays he assigns throughout the quarter and he is a very fair grader. Definitely recommend!!

Hands down BEST writing instructor I've ever had! Definitely take him for writing 2! He came back to teach this year. He's so passionate about teaching, you can tell he really loves his job. He's always enthusiastic, his energy rubs off on others. His class is really easy, you only have to write 3 essays for the whole quarter

He is extremely energetic, despite the fact that he can't have coffee, and it is his energy that makes the two hours go by super quick. He is also always there to help, and shares funny stories to help you learn.
