Class was largely determined by two midterms (4/10 difficulty, 85 average) and a final (6/10 difficulty, 80 average). Your grade will be your ability to memorize/apply; memorize everything starting from day 1 including idiosyncratic one-line details on slides, USE ANKI!! The group project was unclear and based on others' efforts.
Notice how all her good reviews are from MCDB 6? That says everything about how bad 126 actually is. This class is a total mess. Don't let those intro-class ratings trick you. Stay away from this course and the Pharmacology major entirely. It's just not worth it. Save yourself!
I get it's a hard class, but the patient case study is a mess. 20 pts depend on peer reviews with zero transparency on the grading mechanism. What if our peers are malicious? This was added last minute, probably to curve since Case 1 was bad, but it's totally unfair. Grades should reflect work, not others' random opinions. Unfair.
Hardest class ever. Mentally destructive for my anxiety. Memorizing 200+ drugs/MOAs/side effects is insane. MCDB 111 is hard but at least it's not all memorizing! Studied 2 weeks + all-nighter and still tanked the final. If you aren't pre-med, I'd skip this class and major. Doubt the prof knows it all by heart. Total academic torture.
Very doable class if you stay on top of lectures. You can redo weekly quizzes, and she gives study materials for exams. Lots of content but she explains important things in depth. Biology is hard, but I thought her exams were true to the content. You can do this!
Olga is a queen!!! 2 midterms and 1 final, weekly quizzes that u can retake, and iclicker are what make up ur grade. If u go to lecture and pay attention u will be fine! She also gives so many practice resources and posts her lectures on canvas. She's SO FUNNY and genuinely cares about her students. These bad reviews are jealous of this stem baddie
Yall need to hop off with these bad reviews. If you're hating on her personality you're just soft. Yeah it's bio it's gonna be hard but if you take it seriously and study you will do well in the class.
Do NOT take as an upper div bio elective. Impossibly hard to memorize all MOAs, side effects, and drugs. Grades hard, lectures heavy, tests even harder. Final was unnecessarily difficult and required in-depth knowledge of every single drug/process learned this quarter. Unless its required for your major, do not take this course for an elective
Idk why there are so many negative reviews! Olga is super sweet and helpful and she's always willing to help out. In terms of difficulty, this class is a little hard but very doable. Her tests were based off of lecture content, practice quizzes, practice problems, iclicker qs, and the practice midterms. Not an easy A but def not impossible!!
I took this class for pre req for PBS. it is def harder than i thought. the questions on the exams are lowket random. about 80% of ur grade is from exams so just memorize and make flashcards for remembering. i spent SO much time studying for her exams and would only get the avg score on them. def one of the top challenging classes.
This course ruined me. The final was EXTREMELY hard with a lot of drug names to remember. I don't know how the other genius could have memorized these things. Probably I'm just a du//mb guy.
a huge amount of drugs(MOAs, side effects) to memorize with no cheat sheet allowed. That's definitely impossible for a short quarter!! Hope me and you guys all can pass
she's here to make my life a tragedy, traumatize me in the lecture. My anxiety disorder became worse all because of her. And she destroy my confidence, and passion in science, and I was very disappointed about all the materials and contents.
I really enjoyed having Azarenko as a lecturer. Her lectures could be a little dense, but I liked the format and the textbook helped break down her lessons further. She's clearly passionate about the topic and she would always answer questions. It's a course with hard material, so of course it's a difficult class, but it's very doable with her.
Idk why she has bad reviews, Prof Azarenko is amazing!! It is clear she's super passionate about the material and she cares about her students -- she has always responded to my emails and often makes jokes/reminds us to breathe during class/exams. If you study + go to class you'll be fine! 2 midterms, 1 final, weekly online quizzes, iclicker.
It feels like she has no interest in seeing her students succeed. Her feedback is rarely constructive and often borders on being rude. If you are looking for a professor who is approachable and respectful, look elsewhere. Not worth the stress.
she never replied my email. NEVER!!!
Horrible experience. She is rude and creates a hostile learning environment. She is very condescending; she made inappropriate jokes about me personally when I simply forgot my ID for an exam. Her lectures are confusing and she offers zero support. You are basically on your own teaching yourself while dealing with her disrespect. JUST AVOID HER!!!!
Dr. Azarenko is a really bad lecturer. Her lecture is poorly organized so self study matters. She asked us to memorize a lot of things but she just randomly picked some very specific terms in the exams, which means that your exam scores depend on luck ( I did bad at the 1st one but got a super high score for the 2nd one). Avoid.
I was wary because of her low rating, but she's actually great. She can ramble a bit, and I find her material structure to be odd for me, but I think she explains concepts fairly well and can be funny sometimes. Lectures use iClicker, but you can miss 3 no penalty. Weekly quizzes you can take twice and she gives a practice one thats pretty similar.
Explains content well and is very helpful in office hours.
Very willing to help clarify any concepts. Talking to her after class and at office hours were helpful. I enjoyed her lectures and she thoroughly explained each concept pretty well. Tests were fair I recommend reading the textbook and doing the practice problems.
Professor Olga is really passionate about what she teaches. The class is lecture and exam heavy, but the lectures and textbook do contain the material needed to do well. The class is difficult within itself, but the weekly online quizzes and paying attention in lectures will help you succeed.
Olga provided all of the information necessary to do well in the class. This is objectively a difficult, heavy course, but she was very personable and passionate and did a very good job at making it digestible. People are hating on her because they're bitter about their grade or about her being a baddie woman scientist, but I love her.
