Good Lectures, midterms and finals were all very doable. Not too much homework.
Cool guy. On the first day he bragged ab a Reddit thread that said he was the best 10A prof and honestly, could be true. Dude knows his stuff and has a good sense of humor. as long you put in the time (go to CLAS and do a LOT of practice problems) you'll be fine.
GO TO CLAS! Do as many practice problems/tests as possible. Textbook not helpful; lecture also not helpful (for me). Heavy on teaching heavy calculus behind formulas when we weren't tested on them. You need solid background of basic calculus or you won't succeed. Section also helpful: went through problems similar to test problems.
I would definitely recommend taking 10A with him as the professor. Lectures could be confusing at times and the course is content heavy but he is great at explaining things and clearly has experience teaching the course. Take notes on textbook before lectures, go to CLAS, and do all the practice tests in advance and you will do well.
His lectures were a bit helpful, I did attend about 80% of them. He does explain things well but every lecture he has 28 slides for a 50 min class. Honestly only learned things through the CLAS resource website. would not recommend learning from TAs they don't know anything, rely on CLAS tutors they are amazing.
Econ 10A is unfortunately not taught to you by the professor but instead on your own time by reading the textbook and doing practice tests. Deschenes is a great professor, but the course content is impossible to teach via lecture only. I skipped lectures after midterm 1 and got an A. Most important: tests are fair, so you control your destiny.
He's a pretty average professor imo. Lectures were not terribly boring but also never did anything in particular to make it interesting. I went to all lectures but most of my learning came on my own. 10a will be rough no matter who teaches it so he's not a bad bet
10A is a hard class but is completely doable if you don't let yourself get behind. The lectures and lecture slides are useful for understanding theory, but don't go into too much detail about math. Plenty of past exams are posted on canvas which is the best study material, do them all and you will pass. Overall solid class, would recommend.
10a is a hard class but Deschenes is a great professor. Grades are heavily curved so a 50% is still passing which makes it easier. Definitely need to spend a lot of time outside of class learning material but that is just because of the amount of content in the class.
10a is a hard class but taking it with Deschenes is your best bet. He does a good job lecturing— doesn't speed through. The biggest thing I will give him is his tests are fair. Some of the old exams had outrageous questions but Deschenes' questions were always reasonable (not easy but fair)
I mean it's 10A, you're going to have a horrible time for many reasons but Deschenes isn't one of them. He makes the lectures as interesting as he can but really the main thing you have to do in this class is use external resources to learn, and use any lectures as supplementary. Tests are hilariously hard and worth 85% of your grade.
Literally worst professor ever. Taking him right now and the midterms are genuinely not at all what the past midterms are, and he made this years midterms way more difficult than the past ones posted on Canvas. Midterm 2 was supposed to be mainly calculations but he made it hella theory-based for some reason.
Econ 10a is a hard class in general but he does a good job explaining hard topics. The first midterm was very fair based on what we have learned and the practice materials we were given. 3 question homework quizzes after every lecture but they're pretty easy. Good teacher overall with 2 midterms and a final being 80% of the grade
Didn't attend a single lecture but got an A+. The exams were chill.
10a is absolutely a difficult class regardless of which professor you have, but if i had to do it again I would definitely take deschenes class again! really fair grader, make sure you go through every single practice exam. doable if you put in the work
It is Econ 10A. This is the class that forces you to ask yourself how serious you are about your career.
No clear grading criteria, u would think getting the right answers but with wrong process might get you partial credit on free response, but nope! totally illogical grading and I hope this guy just reflects on himself.
Absolute chad, and bro sounds like George St. Pierre lmao
Very funny professor and made his lectures engaging (through the content, not necessarily asking students questions etc). The final exam was easy, but judging overall on all past exams, he tends to give slightly harder exams than other professors. Would recommend!
Dudes unintentionally hilarious lmao
I never had this Professor luckily, but when I was reviewing midterm and final exam questions from previous years, his exams were disgusting. I recommend taking 10a with any other professor.
Tough class, but having this professor helps. Exams were very fair, and similar to previous exams. Highly recommend taking him.
class isnt really useful, make sure you do old exams and you'll be fine
Wrote a ridiculously hard final. Got 80% and 100% on the midterms so I was okay, but seemed like the FRQ questions on our final were harder than almost any of the previous tests available for practice. Make sure to do well on midterm 1, everything after that is much harder.
