A very personable person but not good at teaching. Class was boring but relatively easy. My ta was terrible.
Professor Ghosh is really nice and tries to make the lectures interesting. The content is very easy to understand but can sometimes feel boring, but she does her very best to help you prepare for the midterm and final. Depending on your TA, you may or may not be graded strictly, but overall this class was fun.
Pretty easy class, lectures were almost pointless but entertaining and interesting, clear midterm/quiz/final study guide, make sure to do the readings, and memorize stuff. My ta was a bit nit picky on grading but very knowledgeable, mandatory section, not lecture. Lots of info in lecture, but again its kinda useless, overall boring class but easy
Boring class and lectures, but fairly easy. Midterm and final are also easy because of the study guides, memorize those and you're good to go really. Doesn't build excitement for the Global Studies major.
lots to memorize, but honestly still pretty easy. midterm was pretty easy. dont need to go to lecture and she gives you a guide on what you need to know for the midterm/final. just memorize the terms and do the readings and youll be fine.
Honestly, this is messed up to say, but every time I would fall asleep in her class, IDK why, but I just would always fall asleep. The readings sometimes matter but not always, my TA was kind of doing too much, and the midterm wasn't so bad.
Judging by what other people have said I might be alone in feeling this way, but I hated the way Ghosh lectured. She made really easy concepts seem way more complex than they were and I simply couldn't follow along her lectures. Nothing she said made sense to me. Class is very easy with posted lecture slides and papers graded super easily though.
Online midterm and final; she really hooked it up. Got an A on both midterm and final and only one B on one of the essays. I skipped 3 out of 10 sections and got a B in the class because of it. Just don’t skip section (even if it’s a waste of time) and you’ll be fine. Material is very basic in this course.
Professor Ghosh is really sweet and made lectures very interesting. midterm and final were both straightforward, online, MC exams and the two writing assignments were super short. easy class but your grade definitely depends on the TA (mine was vague with their expectations and didn't provide any feedback on assignments which was frustrating)
Graded by sections, midterm, 2 2 page papers, + final. Attendance was optional for my section but TA was so engaging, also had us write 150 words/week. Midterm/final were multiple choice; questions can be misleading. Papers were easy/straightforward to complete. Very informative lectures, many interesting concepts. Class content is strangely broad.
Lectures are very dense, my hand cramped up every day from writing so fast, but overall a pretty easy class
She was a fantastic lecturer and her lectures were fairly interesting. You have to show up because she wont post her slides, but the lectures are far from boring. Once you become aware of how often she says right? or yeah? at the end of her sentences, it will become painful.
She's super sweet and I enjoyed listening to her lectures. She doesn't post her slides, so you kinda gotta show up. Not a lot of work, interesting topic, overall really liked it.
This was supposed to be an ENGLISH class but it wound up being about india all the time. She seems to be very intelligent and knowledgeable but this was a weird class and hard to figure out what they were trying to teach. It's an elective and i would not recommend taking it by choice!

Worst English teacher I've had at UCSB and it's my minor. She makes her lectures much more complicated than they need to be, and seems to be more interested in sounding intelligent than actually being clear and teaching her students thoroughly. English 50 is great for fulfilling GE's, but definitely take with another professor. Must attent lectures

Oh I love her so much! She's everything you could want in a professor. Her course material is fresh and interesting an her lectures are challenging yet accessible. I have never had a professor who was this organized and on top of everything. She addresses every possible concern a student can have when it comes to grading. AMAZING PROFESSOR!
Professor Ghosh is extremely intelligent and entertaining. Her lectures were always a lot of fun and the reading material was relevant and easy to understand. Midterm and final weren't difficult if you keep up with most of the reading. She also communicates with her TA's frequently to keep them in check so grading was lenient.
Professor Ghosh is great! Definitely one of the best English professor in the department. Relatively easy if you do the reading, and keeps class discussions interesting.
Great teacher. Very interesting and approachable, I always try to take classes she is teaching!
