Great professors! Both are insanely knowledgable about the subject and teach in an easy-to-understand way. Tests are hard but very fair. Lots of memorization

The Baldwins teach an amazing class... the way they feed off each other is just outstanding. Their passion for the topic makes you want to learn more. Wonderful lecturers... a very clear, and concise class.

Seems like an overview class, but they expect you to be extremely specific for answers. They cover dozens of topic, but the tests are just a few questions wanting very specific details.

Hands down, the two (John & Janice) bestprofs in the Soc dept - and the only ones intellectually open-minded. Their classes are tough but you'll learn way more than your typical soc class. Highly reccomended.

gret class, informative and fun... three midterms and a final but not too hard! Awesome people the Balwins.

If you are queer, I do not recommend these classes. I got an A in the first one, moved to B, and was surrounded by heteros who thought a day on queer issues was enough. At least I can give sex info to my straight friends...

These professors are the very best professors I have ever had. Yes, the exams are hard. BUT fair. It is NOT impossible to earn an A - but you do have to study and really know your stuff.

The Baldwins are very interesting and amusing teachers, but is almost impossible to get more than a B in this class! They expect you to know soooo much material when only a fraction of it is actually covered in class, much less tested on.

What the hell, who grades these ridiculous tests? There is a reason why noone gives essay tests anymore, because you can be fair in how you grade them. The Baldwins are a bunch of tools who will drive you crazy with their laser pointers.

ITs a really interesting class.. but there wasn't much help offered. The test were also extremely hard.

I hate this class. You would think since it is a sex ed clas and it's an elective it would be easy. HELL NO. the graders are horrible. Really inconsistent> I do not recommend this class.

awesome married/team teachers. the baldwins are wonderful professors for a very interesting course.

3 Midterms and Cumulative final. All essay tests. Doesnt grade tests, has graders who suck and are not consistent. I dont recommend.

BORING BORING BORING! Class from hell. Not a good SOC class. Not a bad teacher but a bad class.

Hopefully a lot of the stuff in this class is old news to most people, but there's a lot of interesting stuff in it and new takes on things. If you've ever got space in your schedule or are a math/science/engr major and need Social Sci classes, take it!

I love the substantive part of the class, but this couple thrives on academic imperialism. I went to office hours and was asked to not go again. What's up with that? Can't I question a professor's authority? Don't take this elitists couple.

The knew their stuff. The class was kinda difficult, involved alot of reading and memorization! I didn't find them that approachable and some lectures were boring. Great class, a MUST at UCSB!

Great teachers, great couple...taught me very useful information. take this class!!!

This class is worth taking. I learned a lot from them. Lectures are interesting, and the subject matter can be applied to every day life. As long as you keep up with all the reading and memorize some terms you'll be fine!
