Class is largely two essays (50%) and final (20%). She's pretty chill and there's EC. I hardly went to class but did well thanks to TA. The final is a bit annoying as you have to prep ~10 possible prompts (with quotes as evidence) on your cheat sheet but it's more busywork than hard. IDs on test are not bad at all. Read the books btw.
Even though Rappaport is very nice, caring, & accommodating, the final exam is absolutely ridiculous for this class especially being that it is a lower-div/GE requirement. The "study guide" given lists sixteen essay prompts from 10+ sources and expects you to be knowledgable on HUNDREDS of topics/sources for the "ID section". Extremely frustrating.
I never attended lecture yet I got an A on all hw assignments and on both papers. She is heavy on assignments but it's not bad at all. My ta Victoria Sharp however was terrible. She held no compassion and would constantly push her political beliefs onto the class during the section. Overall good class but if Victoria Sharp is ever your ta SWITCH
Even though Prof Rappaport is nice, there are two papers weighted 50% of your total grade. The final exam is worth 20% and she gives you around 16 possible essay prompts plus IDs that she gives no possible options for. Very hard to study for given that she references the textbook which has around 200 possible ID terms not even counting lectures.
Prof Rappaport is such a nice lady and very knowledgeable! The class was structured well, essays were reasonable, and she gave up to 6 extra credit points added to the final. If you don't like history you probably won't like the course but as a history major she is awesome! She will help you succeed in the course, and the TAs were nice.
good prof but rambles during lecture on things that don't matter, then goes super fast on material needed for papers. There are 2 essays & a final, essays grades just depend on TA. Easy class, can get away with not going to lecture but it is helpful since the slides she posts usually don't have much actual info on them.
She rants a lot at times, 3 papers total but there are multiple prompt choices. She cares a lot about her research so expect a few shameless plugs. Lectures can be about 3 hours per week at most, textbook expect multiple chapters a week. Section is just discussing text.
Prof Rappaport is super kind and loves the material! Gives extra credit and just wants you to do well.
Hist. 4C was a straight forward history course. 2 essays and a final. Offers extra credit. Read the novels and you will be totally fine for the exams and section.
This class was a lot of work, consisting of two papers, two outside books, weekly textbook readings, and section assignments. The lectures were boring and quite repetitive of the textbook. There are very few things in the grade which makes it tougher.
The class itself is not that difficult. There is a lot of dense reading involved. The only thing you will be graded on are two papers, a final, and section attendance. I felt like lectures were pretty pointless because they were based off the reading. Her lectures were not that clear and I felt like she would ramble on a lot.
Rappaport makes you really work. The material is easy, but she makes you read 2 books that are not that great and boring af. Depending on your TA it'll be hard to really gage, but I had Elizabeth Schmidt is she's the worst TA ever. This is supposed to be an easy GE, but she grades VERY VERY HARD and expects a lot. Do not get her as a TA!
A really lovely professor. She made the class and her assignments very interesting. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

All her lectures are on powerpoint so attending class is not 100% mandatory. Sessions are important, only 2 essays which are based on readings and a book. Final was the only difficult part.
Easy class with really interesting subjects... but lectures got pretty boring. 2 900-word papers and a final. She gives a study guide out before the final, and lets you bring an 8x11 to the exam, so as long as you do the study guide you're golden. In the end, your TA does the grading, so definitely go to office hours!!
Hated the class, extremely boring lectures, i fell asleep in them. Her voice is whiny. Class theme was interesting but she found a way to make it boring, essays were somewhat easy, final was easier than i thought. Hardly went to lecture always attended discussion, easy final, passed the class. Boring teacher though.
I felt this class was really boring. The subjects were great but I hated lecture. I always felt talked down to. there are definitely better history teachers. stick to 2C if you have the choice.
her voice is annoying. she rants on pointlessly. grade consists of two papers and a final. kind of hard to write because ta was useless and didnt tell us exactly what he was looking for in a paper, topics were vague and open ended. try to take with diff prof if you have to take this class
Rappaport is a sweet lady. She gives you the midterm and final questions beforehand, AND allows you to bring in an 8 by 11 study sheet both sides... so just use really tiny font and put all the info you need. I missed a lot of lectures and still got an A. And she has a good sense of humor!
Her squeaky voice is a bit annoying, and she exaggerates and uses hyperbole to describe details in her lectures. It makes her sound a bit out of touch. I wouldn't avoid because in the end its your TA grading, but there's better historys profs out there
Easy A. Midterm, term paper, final. There's three outside books, but I didn't read two of them and I still pulled a B+ on the paper. Don't need to go to lecture, but if you do, you can see she's passionate. An easy class.
