The class gets boring, but its okay if you zone out because he puts the powerpoints online. Going is good because you might hear something important. Section is mandatory and easy. Professor is great but I thought this class was unnecessarily difficult and confusing. Probably not the best class to take as a lost freshman. Would be more interested in taking evolutionary psych with him.

Generally a nice guy, but can be an jerk when it comes to contradicting him, because apparently HE KNOWS EVERYTHING!!! Class was easy, though.
He treats every student as if they are an idiot. Wastes class time by giving over the top explanations of words such as skew, optimum, advantageous... etc. When presented with an argument, resorts to personal beliefs rather than professional beliefs. Second lecture and i am already disgusted.

I loved this class, definitely try on the homework and you will get an A, he makes sure you stay on top of things. Definitely go to his office hours because he will "hint" at test questions
Nice enough most of the time. has an unpredictable temper. Grading is done artistically. he either will not or cannot descibe the material and how he grades. I think he is very prejudiced and doesn't like scrutiny of any kind.
Professor Gaulin is absolutely adorable! He is an extremely kind man who makes every effort to make lecture interesting, understandable, and relatable to everyday life. I didn't think the class was very easy; his tests are pretty difficult (but fair for the most part). Bring your laptop if you want notes that are anywhere close to adequate.
Lectures were always interesting and he always like to incorporate current events into the material. Always happy to help clarify topics and help with homework outside of class
i learned a lot, didn't get a great grade but he loves to argue so take his classes if you want to hear discussions of interesting questions posed by advanced upperclassmen who take his classes. he also loves analogies so if that works for you, he's your man

Gaulin had a very routine Powerpoint-lecture style and gave a comprehensive lecture on the material. He knows the subject matter well, answers questions during lecture and is helpful outside of the class during his office hours. This course is aimed at those interested in evolutionary anth.; I wasn't interested so I didn't like it as much as most
Really interesting class, easy to fallow if you just go to lecture. Don't need book or to read just pay attention. Really nice guy, loves the topic and gets really into it. My TA was amazing, so get a good one! (Aldo)-Funny and makes it fun to learn. Take home midterm easy, final a little hard, study for the essay Q's a lot.
He cares very much about teaching and his lecutures are clear and organized. He is very invested in his students and makes a great effort to answer questions and ensure your complete understanding. Class is fun and entertaining and, most of all, teaches you something new every time.
A very profound professor with a clear vision of what he wishes to get across in his teaching and he does it. The tests are hard but if you utilize the textbook, the TA's, the problem sets, and the professor's office hours well and you're willing to put in the effort, this class is very interesting and rewarding.
He's boring and a lot of what he's teaching is contradicted by other research. The test had an incorrect question on it, the TA agreed but he didn't throw out the question. Take if you really believe everything you do, every thought you have, is determined by evolution - because that's what he thinks.
I thought he was easy cuz his ratings were high and the midterm's take home but it's NOT!! His lectures can be funny and some can be really boring...and it sucks if you have a bad TA.
I AGREE with the person below me. Seriously, I have heard he changed his lecture style? I find the lectures VERY boring, & i look around & people around me are sleeping. The tests are very hard & dont really contain what is said in lecture. I was excited to take this class because his ratings on here were great but he is NOT living up to the hype!
Worst teacher! I really do not understand what these students' below are talking about. I emailed him about his lecture notes (keep in mind, I was asking for clarity) and he snapped back telling me he has no obligation to help me. He is rude! Tests are VERY hard too
He is a very good professor and tries his hardest to make sure he gets the material (which is a lot) covered in an interesting.
Probably the best class I've had so far. If you get a chance to take this class, do it asap! Last qtr the grading system was a bit rough (100 points in the class, automatic 10 point reduction if you ask for extra credit!!) but I got an A because I went to section and lecture every day. You won't feel like you're wasting your time!
