Lectures provided were from 2 years ago. No effort at all. Had to rate the professor when he basically was not present, and test was prepared by someone else on topics that were not covered. Lectures are boring and monotonous. The only good thing tbh was a cute dog Tyler, this guy was the only thing I was looking forward to when watching them.

Intro Bio department couldn't find a professor to teach the plants section of the course so they had us watch Scott's online COVID lectures. His lectures were all over the place; I'd recommend reading the book in-depth rather than watching his lectures as he does not stray far from it.

He was a really sweet professor who really cares about his students. He showed us really cool videos about his dog and plants that he sees on his hikes. Informational, inspirational, and interesting. Hope he continues making them!

i love dr mazer, although she left around wk3 for personal/health reasons, 127 is probably the most rewarding class ive had at ucsb. study guides are not graded assignments but do ALL of them anyway, seriously helped me for the final/quizzes. she's so passionate & her ppts are very detailed. i ended up joining her lab, do the work & you'll be fine!

Prof. Hodges is a really passionate, kind instructor. Lectures are detailed and reflective of exam content. CLAS and practice questions (especially from in-class quizzes) help. Organization could be better, and there is a lot of studying involved in his portion, but overall I recommend taking this class!

Extremely disorganized lectures which seem to jump all over the place, but if you pay attention and take good notes you'll catch on. He provided a practice final which contained a handful of exact questions from the midterm we were graded on, which was nice. No need to even open the textbook for this entire class.

Professor Mazer is caring, clear and concise when it comes to lecturing. Everything you need to know in on the power-points. The powerpoints are usually 50-60 slides in length each lecture, on top of section lectures which pounds even more information on top of you. This class is pure memorization, nothing else to it. It takes a lot of your time.

I thought Prof. Mazer created a really thorough and well organized course about a huge topic, plant anatomy and biodiversity. I wish more than 2 weeks had been spent on the biodiversity section though, especially because she put so much of it on the final. If you take this class definitely study the last few lectures really thoroughly.

it's called plant diversity but we spent almost the whole quarter on plant cells and anatomy. the diversity part is only like the last 2 weeks. way too much information for the last 2 weeks to memorize tbh. :( don't recommend to take it

passionate lecturer, but very disorganized. his powerpoint slides are hard to follow. its difficult to study when you're just looking at diagrams from the book and blurry videos of his dog. his midterm was very generous tho.

Listen: if his lectures were more organized, he'd probably be my 2nd favorite eemb prof behind Latto. Hes so nice, so passionate, and the video bits with Tyler were really fun. I had to take really intense notes on his lectures since the slides were so bare/confusing, but maybe that was helpful? idk

Great professor, goes over a lot of detail but as long you take great notes you'll be fine. Shows plenty of videos of his adorable dog Tyler looking for plants. Overall great professor.

Lectures are pretty organized yet dense. He's definitely real passionate about plants and wants us to learn well. He greatly emphasizes life-cycles and phylogenetic trees so make sure to remember those! The videos of him and his dog Tyler were a nice touch lol. The midterm for his section was pretty hard though and sometimes had ambiguous wording.

Ok, so cuz of coronavirus, we're online right now, and Professor Hodges is doing great. He teaches everything in great detail and even incorporates fun little videos of his dog Tyler in nature showing us the plants we are learning about. He is so passionate about the subject and it's wonderful. Highly enthusiastic and fun guy, definitely cares.

Professor Hodges was fine, but he got behind the lecture schedule. His section was probably the hardest and most demanding of the 3. He does do iclickers that are graded for accuracy too. There's a ton of information you need to memorize in this class so it's best to review the recorded lectures since anything he says might be tested.

Hodges is very enthusiastic and really cares about plants. However, the slides have almost no information on them, the material is super dense and complex, and his tests are TRICKY. His portion of the final was by far the most difficult. STUDY STUDY STUDY for his section. The other two profs of this class present the material more clearly.

His portion of the EEMB 3 final was extremely difficult and Tricky. Also, introbios grading was terrible this quarter. It seems they curved down as my grade should have been a B- but was a C+.extra credit didnt make a difference at all, iclicker points make a big impact so attend lecture.

Slides are bare bones, he's very passionate about plants but its kinda unclear what you're gonna be tested on. Be prepared to pay attention as well as self-study from the start or its really easy to get behind.

Hodges taught plant/botany section for EEMB3. He is really enthusiastic about plants but his lecture slides suck. They are all pictures and little to no words so you don't really have a good guide to study off of. He is nice and attentive when you ask questions, and also visits the lab sections and finds the plant specimen we study in lab.

Mazer is a great lecturer. She is very passionate about plant biology & it really shows. Beware of 4 cumulative pop quizzes that literally stress you out the whole quarter & a multiple choice final. Not difficult but you can mess up your grade if you arent constantly preparing for the next pop quiz.

Scott is really passionate about plant diversity. He says "my favorite plant is the one I saw last". I never showed up to class bc it was an 8am but I always looked forward to watching the lectures online. Studying for the midterm was a great time. Scott's part of the class was definitely my favorite in the bio series.

She does 4 pop quizes in class. It does help you study the material all the time but the class is totally focused on the grade and test. Class was Mon and Wed, and a quiz on Wed could cover Monday lecture so you'd have to learn it all perfectly the day after the class to be ready. It says quiz but every quiz is around 10% so you can't mess up.

Six pop quizzes, one final, and section. Pop quizzes are straight forward and easy as long as you study for them. I liked the grading criteria a lot. YOU DO NOT NEED THE BOOK. You also don't need to do the practice questions online. Just read the lecture notes (take some notes too in lecture) and you'll do well.

He doesn't respond to emails. Doesn't grade his own exams, the TA does. His tests were very straightforward (doesn't mean easy). He didn't seem to care much about individual students doing well in the course, sort of just went through the course as if it was his 10th time doing it. His lectures were interesting & directed us towards things to study
