The best prof ever
Shay's content was a little harder/more disorganized than James' in EEMB3, but she was still a very good prof. She genuinely cares about students. Her exams are a little harder than James', but they're still really easy. Our class was a little confusing, especially with big and small bio merging, but Shay did her best to accommodate everyone.
so accessible, so knowledgeable, literally the sweetest lady ever. you can just tell from the way she lectures that she really cares about the subject matter and her students. only critique is that her class is a little disorganized but she is more than willing to work with you to make up for this. highly, recommend. you are awesome prof shay!
One of the best professors on campus presence wise. She is very enthusiastic about her topics and is very kind/caring. It's fun to go to lecture there's a lot of active learning and talking to people around you. Teaches in a very straightforward way, making it so much less stressful. The general outline of what she's teaching is very clear!
highly highly recommended. She is amazing and very approachable.
I loved professor Wilbanks. She was very clear with what we needed to know for the midterm and had great explanations. She was super engaging and I loved going to class, I wish she taught all quarter!
Loved her, wish she taught the whole quarter. Very engaging lecturer, and makes things very clear
Lectures are unclear and boring
She might know stuff but she doesn't care if you do. She is completely disinterested in helping students succeed in her class.
Amazing professor, would recommend. Also had her for EEMB 3 and she was great!
Prof. Shay is one of the best professors I've ever had. She is passionate about the subject she teaches and is obviously dedicated to the success, and most importantly, the education of her students. Very nice professor and offers understandable leeway due to circumstance. Highly recommend. I myself learned a lot and enjoyed doing so.
I was waitlisted for this class. Dr. Shay is the reason why I was able to get off the waitlist. She went straight to the department for a whole week trying to allow more students to take her class. She is truly amazing. Quizzes every week (relatively easy), sections were so much fun, and two essays. One of the easiest EEMB courses at UCSB.
The lecture is beautiful with lots of images. She is nice and friendly, and willing to help them. She created many activities in discussion sections, and They are funny. I attended this course without pressure. 5 online quizzes and no exam. Questions are not easy because she trained your critical thinking. Highly recommend taking her courses.
Professor Wilbanks is amazing! For a cell physio class, she doesn't emphasize on any rigid memorization. Instead, she tests on general metabolism patterns and whether you can apply them to other scenarios. The tests are easy to prepare for as they are the exact same style as the problem sets, make sure to be able to explain diagrams really well.
Since it was Her first time teaching I think she really wasn't sure on how to teach the class. The midterm was relatively workable and easy while the final was extremely hard and long. She isn't clear sometimes on the material and what you're going to be tested on. The Final was literally everything we learned, majority short answer
Uses powerpoint for her lectures. However, sometimes it's hard to be sure what is important or not. In Section, assigns a scientific paper to read and do a summary on, unless it's your turn to give a presentation on the paper. Is a pretty lenient grader. Lectures can kind of drag on, but a nice professor.
