Super fun course with a very engaging professor! Very interesting course material, felt like there was a fair amount of reading to do at times but nothing too excessive. The assignments throughout the quarter were explained in great detail to leave no room for confusion, and were more fun to do than a lot of the assignments I had for other classes.

Grade is based off of a take-home midterm, project, and final project along with attendance and 3 online quizzes. I found the grading rubrics to be a bit unclear but the class is interesting and the professor seemed nice.

SO engaging and helpful, lots of readings but the important stuff is always on the slides. attendance is mandatory for credit but never an issue because class is so fun and interesting. creative projects and easy quizzes. fantastic professor!

Very easy class.

Professor Hom was one of the best professors I had here at UCSB. You can tell how educated she is on this topic by the way she talks, all of her lectures were filled with such great detail. She also had amazing guest lectures, which I really enjoyed. She does take attendance, but I was happy going to class every day!

professor hom always teaches very fun and unique classes. this one was crime italian style and it was super engaging. the class consists of attendance, a couple easy quizzes, in person midterm, group presentation, and take home final. she always responds to emails quickly. there can be a lot of readings but the lectures are more important for tests

dont be me and buy the textbook! you literally dont need it except for the first lecture its not worth wasting money. class was a breeze! lots of readings however the most essential ones she will cover in lecture. grades based off attendance, 2 online short quizzes, in-person midterm and final essay. these were very straightforward though. take her

Professor Hom is so nice! I loved her so much and want to take one of her classes again. She grades based on participation, two response papers, a take-home midterm, group project, and a final paper. She's not a tough grader at all. She does take attendance but it's good because a lot of the material is said in lecture. Do not buy the book!!

Easy A but extremely boring lectures based on broad generalizations. Sort of a watered down history class. Papers are easy + don't require you to do the reading. She's lucky that UCSB is on the quarter system bc there's no way she could've squeezed out another few weeks of material. Extremely slow paced but the guest lecturers we had were fantastic

Absolute gem of a professor, super accommodating in the face of recent events. She genuinely wants every single one of her students to succeed, and makes the material engaging and interesting. If you put in the effort and attend lectures, you'll definitely pass with flying colors. Very accessible outside of class!

I really loved this class and Professor Hom!! She is so sweet and is very prepared during lectures. She expects you to attend live lectures, but is accommodating and posts lectures on gauchospace. Light workload, but very interesting topics. She gives a lot of feedback on assignments and is passionate about what she teaches.

You can tell this professor reads your assignments because of the detailed feedback she gives. Actually feels like she cares if her students understand the material. Classes were live, but were always recorded and posted on gauchospace, so you could attend asynchronously if wanted. If you do the homework and pay attention in class, you will pass.
