Prof. B is the Great Ninja Master of upperdivision physics. His teaching is brilliant-he is precise and thorough and he pays very close attention to whether you get it or not. Encourages visits and tries very hard to help. Tests are a challange - but burdensome trials you must face if Great Ninja you wish to be.
Professor Blaes explains this very well both in class and during office hours. He is very enthusiastic during the lecture which makes it easier to pay attention. His tests are just a couple questions which doesn't hit on all the material. Having no curve doesn't help either.
My favorite professor. I really loved physics in that class.
Probably the best professor at UCSB if you are really interested in learning the material then Blaes is the professor to have he is very considerate to his students as well. Tests can be difficult but the grading scheme makes it fair and the homework policy is inflexible so make sure to do homework
Showed up to the midterm and final only and still managed to get a B+, very lenient curve.
I had Dr. Blaes for a bunch of classes within the Physics major. He was, absolutely, my favorite professor.
clear, well-prepared lectures and fair grading system. fairly rigerous homework schedule but it ends up being helpful at the end.
awesome class... final was a little too hard and homework was challenging. but help is there and the midterm was a breeze
Blaes allows cheat sheets. He is very good at teaching 1 to 1. Funny in lecture too. Homework sucks but he is a fair teacher.
Very nice guy... a bit of an english accent or something i dont know, i hate when he says cos like "cause". LOL Other than that, he does a good job! Difficult tests..
Really puts a lot of energy into his work.
Blaes loves physics and if you go to his office hours he will help you with whatever you need. He is fair. The homework is pretty intense though.
He's a pretty fair teacher & likes teaching. Sometimes a lot of work to keep up.
he's a very enthusiastic lecturer. at grad level, materials may be a bit skimpy, but that's more of a fault of quarter system. he does filter the materials rather well.
DO NOT TAKE BLAES!! no cheat sheet on midterms, 20 written homework assignments for each chapter. The final was nothing like the homework problems. Does not give examples for problems. PURELY ALL CONCEPTUAL which I had a hard time learning.
