tym is super nice and the class was fun. the assignments are good too, not too much work but definitely improved my writing skills in the process of doing them. also he doesn't use the textbook that most other writ 2 profs use, he provides his own materials so you don't have to buy anything
Uses contract grading method, so you won't know your grade until after your final paper, and it's at his discretion. Class itself is chill. Just participate in class, do your group activities and weekly assignments, and complete your 3 papers on time. Tym does a good job getting every student to engage in the class.
Uses contract grading, so if you complete every assignment (regardless of the quality of the work), you'll have a B in the class. After that, the final in the class is a paper convincing him to give you an A. Would definitely recommend this as an easy GE.
He is a nice guy. All the instructions for activities were only given in class, so attendance is mandatory. The in-class activities were fun and required communication with classmates, so be ready to speak. Fair grading. He did give a lot of instruction for writing assignments this quarter. I think everyone got good results.
Nice professor, you should attend class for graded in-class activities but it always went by kinda fast and I never minded going. I got good grades on my papers and he gives thorough feedback. Little homework, just a short reading once a week and project builders for essays.
Very friendly instructor. No heavy homework to do. Most of the writing activities were finished in class.
Super knowledgeable professor. Would sometimes go on tangents, but overall I learned a lot about PR and feel like a much better writer. You have the freedom to write about any company you're passionate about, which was fun. Also learned a bit about design and graphics. Not too much work, I would take her class again.
Tym is an amazing writing professor. His grading was fair (idk what others are saying??). You can't slack in his class. But we all got a fair shot. You gotta put in the work to see the results... The class was quite interactive and he was always there to answer your questions.I feel like I've become a better writer thanks to his class! 10/10
prof williams was great and she really cared about developing the students' writing. the class could be a lot of work at times, but the material was super interesting so it never felt overwhelming! writ107m has been my favorite class at ucsb so far. definitely recommend if you're interested in magazine writing or just creative writing in general!
RUN FAR AWAY. She ALWAYS went off on a tangent. Literally one girl asked a question and she spent the entire class answering it ToT. The due dates were confusing, her class was unorganized. She didn't follow her own course schedule, didn't even explain the assignments. Don't take her class ToT
taking this class showed me why PR is a dying industry. lecture = unorganized rambling. you'll wish you had a clone to sit in for you. if someone asks a question she'll talk about 5 other different things for 20 minutes to answer. reading responses have confusing due dates (she acknowledged this and changed stuff around, so that's good at least).
Unfair grading. Unreasonable amount of extra work.
Will not return emails at all. No one listened to him in class, and mostly let the students discuss by themselves. You might as well ask your classmates for advice from him.
The essay questions are always vague without specific explanation. Worst professor that I have met.
Completely unprofessional. She was outright rude to students on a public forum and said things like "I'm only reading this because I have to" and "are you allergic to paragraphs". She was completely arrogant and condescending. Not to mention the work was overwhelming with little to no feedback besides rude comments.
Chajdas is great at giving feedback about your writing. I definitely feel improvement in my writing after taking WRIT2. However, he doesn't give much instruction about homework or papers and barely gives any time for us to work on them. If you email him, it'll take roughly five days for a response, so don't skip class.
Took the class over summer, didnt feel crammed. Tym is the way to go for Writing 2.
Such a kind professor and you can tell she really cares. One of the few classes that I feel will actually apply to my professional and personal life, and I have learned more about writing in this class than any other class I've taken in college. Engaging topics and a lot of range in terms of what you want to write about.
I would not recommend taking this class with her. I enjoy writing and public relations but she ruined the class for me. If you ask questions in class, she may question you on why you're asking and will make you feel incompetent. This class is also A LOT of work, not easy at all. Avoid this class unless you REALLY want to take it.
She is really a nice professor and has greatly improved my writing. You will get a good grade if you finish all the homework.
Three assignments per week, fair grading. Only had two writing projects for this quarter. Great professor.
Williams is a decent, understanding professor! She tries to engage with her students and is respectful when getting one on one feedback. All WRIT 2 classes are relatively small, so skipping class will be noticeable and affect your grade! She is not a bad choice for this class though!
Great professor! Really enjoyed her teaching style. Very well organized and cares about the students.
Alison Williams is such a sweet and caring professor. The class feels super long, but she tries her best to make it as fun as possible. Although you are constantly assigned essays for the course, she is a fairly easy grader. Youre assigned weekly readings on top of the papers as well, but theyre fairly easy. You begin class with a journal entry.
