WRIT105 . Fancher P J 11 Months Ago

Professor Fancher is the best! I loved this class so much, she creates a really supportive and friendly class environment. She genuinely cares about students and wants them to do well, very understanding if you need an extension or extra help on an assignment. I definitely recommend taking a class with her!

Really kind and caring professor! You can clearly see that she wants her students to do well in her course. I really liked her lecture style of class participation while she navigates the conversation and adds in her own points. She does have weekly assignments every week but they're fairly easy and she has a very generous late work policy.

Super knowledgeable professor. Would sometimes go on tangents, but overall I learned a lot about PR and feel like a much better writer. You have the freedom to write about any company you're passionate about, which was fun. Also learned a bit about design and graphics. Not too much work, I would take her class again.

prof williams was great and she really cared about developing the students' writing. the class could be a lot of work at times, but the material was super interesting so it never felt overwhelming! writ107m has been my favorite class at ucsb so far. definitely recommend if you're interested in magazine writing or just creative writing in general!

RUN FAR AWAY. She ALWAYS went off on a tangent. Literally one girl asked a question and she spent the entire class answering it ToT. The due dates were confusing, her class was unorganized. She didn't follow her own course schedule, didn't even explain the assignments. Don't take her class ToT

taking this class showed me why PR is a dying industry. lecture = unorganized rambling. you'll wish you had a clone to sit in for you. if someone asks a question she'll talk about 5 other different things for 20 minutes to answer. reading responses have confusing due dates (she acknowledged this and changed stuff around, so that's good at least).

Did not like her teaching style. Ability to convey material challenged by strange outlook on life.

Completely unprofessional. She was outright rude to students on a public forum and said things like "I'm only reading this because I have to" and "are you allergic to paragraphs". She was completely arrogant and condescending. Not to mention the work was overwhelming with little to no feedback besides rude comments.

Such a kind professor and you can tell she really cares. One of the few classes that I feel will actually apply to my professional and personal life, and I have learned more about writing in this class than any other class I've taken in college. Engaging topics and a lot of range in terms of what you want to write about.

I would not recommend taking this class with her. I enjoy writing and public relations but she ruined the class for me. If you ask questions in class, she may question you on why you're asking and will make you feel incompetent. This class is also A LOT of work, not easy at all. Avoid this class unless you REALLY want to take it.

Trish is a great feminist prof! Class is only graded on 3 papers and weekly discussion responses. She is very understanding and provides good feedback on papers. She was very lenient and respected our needs for extensions and what not. Go to lecture, participate weekly in the forum, and youll pass.

She is really a nice professor and has greatly improved my writing. You will get a good grade if you finish all the homework.

Williams is a decent, understanding professor! She tries to engage with her students and is respectful when getting one on one feedback. All WRIT 2 classes are relatively small, so skipping class will be noticeable and affect your grade! She is not a bad choice for this class though!

WRIT109ST . Fancher P J 5 Years Ago

Fancher is a nice professor who tries her best to help you. There are lots of assignments and you really need to work hard, but it's all worth it. When you don't know what to do, just come to office hours and ask for help.

No tests, only papers, and works with you to edit and improve them

You have to create two websites; an individual website to submit blog post assignments (2-3/week) and a group project website on a story. No clear rubric on how she graded blog post/reading responses (where/why you lost points) until the end of the quarter when it is too late to improve in those areas. She is really nice and wants you to pass.

Alison Williams is such a sweet and caring professor. The class feels super long, but she tries her best to make it as fun as possible. Although you are constantly assigned essays for the course, she is a fairly easy grader. Youre assigned weekly readings on top of the papers as well, but theyre fairly easy. You begin class with a journal entry.

She was so great! Class was long (2 hours) but she made it go by pretty quick. Definitely a lot of work but Alison is a pretty chill grader. There are readings she assigns every week. You can get by if you just skim through them. Essays were pretty abstract but once you got going, they became easy to write. Definitely a solid choice, mostly easy A.

WRIT109GS . Fancher P J 6 Years Ago

She is a very friendly and caring professor! That being said, I wouldn't take this class unless you really enjoy feminist studies because she goes overboard on the workload and assigns unnecessary busywork. No clear rubric and grading is somewhat arbitrary. More lenient grader on writing w/ opinions + experiences she resonates with.

Sitting in class for 2 hours was boring but Prof Williams seemed to care about her students and would put in the time to help us. During class we would write short blog posts. All the writing/papers youd expect from a writing class but it was manageable. Prof sometimes gave feedback later than she said she would but it was usually helpful

The SWEETEST professor at UCSB. Truly cares for her students and wants to see you do well. I would take her for every class if I could! It's a fair amount of work but nothing over the top- truly doable
