He is very knowledgeable and very nice, but I get the impression that his classes would be significantly better if not online. Lectures are really dense and he has a tendency to drone on, but you can get most pertinent info from the slides that he posts. TA is a strict grader, so make sure to not generalize in any of your papers. Lots of readings.
Lectures were very optional as much of the information you will need for midterms are all accessible through slides, some questions asked very general questions from the readings. readings are also not necessary except for the readings for the comparative analysis papers of which there are 2 assigned. Overall very straight forward class no fluff
Prof Clemencon is so laidback. Took on zoom. there were asynchronous lectures and synchronous meetings that were optional. Very knowledgeable and is willing to answer any question you may have. You'll do really well if you're good at analytical essays. A lot of reading but the material was pretty interesting. He really wants his students to succeed
Loved this class and the Professor, really nice guy. Sounds like Gru from Despicable Me and it was a great addition to the lectures! Reading heavy, but the essays are not too bad and neither is the final as he gives you the questions ahead of time and selects 5 of them randomly.
This dude is the epitome of boring. The material should have made this course mega-interesting, but his voice and graph-heavy lecture slides really just hurt my face trying to keep my eyes open. Even when he's delivering very consequential, important information, I couldn't be bothered. That being said. I did learn some neat stuff and <3 the earth.
I've had this professor twice now, and he is super knowledgeable. Lectures can be a bit dry but he means well. Super accessible outside of class and just wants to help. Gives clear guidelines as to his tests and essays.
Clemencon is very intelligent and knowledgeable The assigned readings are interesting, I appreciate what I learned in this class No required textbooks, all readings will be posted online 2 short papers (1.5 pages single spaced) and 1 longer paper (2.5-3 single spaced) and a final
His lectures are very easy to follow, posts slides up on GauchoSpace, and has extremely clear grading criteria. Has 2 quizzes and 3 short papers and a final. He gives you all the answers for the quizzes and really wants his students to do well. He's a very inspirational guy and has done a lot in his life...I would take him again and again.
I found the class pretty easy. He assigns quite a few assignments but the essays are not graded harshly. The quizzes also fairly easy if you've done the readings and attended most lectures. The readings were, in my opinion, very interesting, which was a plus. I would recommend this class.
Can anyone say "BORING" !? Only some teachers can make content-rich courses seem irrelevant. I love the issues and articles we cover, but the lecture is painfully boring and it seems that he has no emotional intelligence. Teachers are supposed to "react" to the non-verbal feedback that students are giving off. Think outside of the box MR.
His class was great, very interesting. He sounds like Gru from Despicable Me, so that kind of distracted me sometimes. His lectures can get a little dry, but he posts all his slides online and the material is very interesting.
