Her lectures are unclear and confusing so I had to teach myself everything in this course. Her tests were MUCH harder than any homework and in class examples we ever had. The curve is unfair because you get a smaller curve when you get a higher raw score. If you have the option, I highly discourage taking Popescu!
I understand that Professor Popescu is new to teaching. However, teaching is something that she should not do until she gets a grasp of how to actually teach students. All of her explanations are scattered and confusing. Whenever a student asks a question her clarification only leads us to be even more confused. Good luck.
Talks really fast, a lot of homework (only 20+ questions, but each question takes me on average 20-30 mins, maybe others are different). I am a math major, but honestly, I think his class is really, really difficult. But he's a good guy, we can tell that he really wants us to learn and understand the materials. Curve is HUGE, midterm 60% is a B-
Xu is an interesting guy. Very kind when you go to office hours. Hard tests, be ready for conceptual tests.
I enjoyed this course. But one needs to know calculus really well in order to get a good grade.
Very interesting lectures! Dr. Xu is very kind and always willing to answer students' questions. Office hours are very helpful. But exams can be difficult.
Horrible. Sometimes you can't understand what he is saying and when you can, he's confusing.
Dr. Xu is great! He is very interesting, engaging, and entertaining in class. Sometimes he moves through derivations quite quickly. But if you ask questions, he is more than willing to explain the concepts in more detail. His tests are geared to train students to think critically and analytically, so they can be difficult.
Cool course. There wasn't much for him to lecture on, it was just a crash course in observational astro. Just follow the labs, use the textbook where needed, the hardest part is figuring out the programs and scripts for image processing. Had to spend a bit of extra time in lab but not like 127. The field trip to Sedgwick was awesome.
The class was more about computer programming than physics... but the homework was simple because he posted his lectures online and you had to look for the specific page on where it talks about the specific diagram. He grades primarily on the final project and just hope that you have an awesome TA to help you.
