He is a pretty good professor. I had him for Indian Cinema but I have talked to others who had him for other classes as well and they say that lecture is really important in all of his classes. I rarely do the readings for Indian Cinema and I did well on his tests because what he goes over in lecture is on the exams.

I didn't like him at first because the lectures can be dry (just talking) but over time I grew to deeply respect and like him. This guy definitely knows the material he teaches and has a passion for it which makes the long lectures much more bearable. Tests are moderately difficult but there is no study guide of any sort so take good notes

theory classes are always hard, but sarkar makes it easier to understand. loves having conversations w/students in and out of class, and his quizzes are BASIC. lectures are almost conversational, and at times it doesnt seem like a film class but it was one of my favorite classes i took in the department. make sure you have a good TA!

Sarkar made otherwise dry and abstract concepts really easy to understand. There's a ton of tough reading to do but he goes over the important ones in lecture page by page so you understand. Lectures are super long and a bit boring but paying attention and taking good notes will help you get an A. Some pop quizzes, a midterm, final, & term paper.

Great professor! She is goofy and funny and made the class interesting. LOVES interspecies relationships and often showed clips. Subject matter was interesting. Barely read and ended up with a B+. Would definitely recommend any class of hers.

One of the best teachers I've ever had. This class blew my mind. The information is super relevant and applicable to your life. I feel like this course should be required for everyone to take because the material covered is so important. And Holt is such a bad ass and she's hilarious.

Truly one of the greatest professors I've had, and I have had many I overload every quarter. Finally a prof who understands that being funny, interesting, and passionate makes it easier for students to learn. Learned more and remembered more than any class ever. She is a great person, will do anything to help you if you put in the effort

Sarkar was one of the best professors I have had at UCSB!! The course itself can be dry but he makes it so much better. He is hilarious and brilliant. His assignments and grading are fair which is rare to find. Take the class you won't regret it! A couple mini/easy quizzes. One midterm, one final and a term paper on whatever you choose!

He was a brilliant professor, teaching difficult to understand concepts. If you do all the assigned readings and go to class/section the class will be so so rewarding though, because it all comes together in class. He is the most brilliant professor I've had at UCSB for sure. Take the time to appreciate this class, it's an experience.

The class was a seminar and boy were the expectations high. She always had a critique about everything that was said by any of us, made me feel unintelligent. A Lot of readings, and participation is a must, and as said before she is a tough grader.

Prof Holt is one of the funniest and most interesting prof's at UCSB, and is extremely knowledgable about media. Her clips & lectures are amusing, however, if you're not interested in the politics of the class you will have a hard time. Keep up with readings and screenings or else you will have no clue what she refers to in lecture.

This class is not that easy, you have to work to get a decent grade. You have to write two papers, even though the class doesn't give you a writing ge. She gives a study guide for the midterm and final. I suggest you study that ASAP because its exactly what's on her exams. Its an okay class, but nothing interesting. Make sure to read the articles!

Prof Holt was an amazing professor! She made lectures lively and interesting. All readings were on GAuchospace, so no textbook! Overall a great fun prof and I'd take another class of hers . Oh and she gives mid term and final exam questions! 1 small paper and 1 research paper

Best class I've ever taken at UCSB. Different topics and disciplines seemes to finally intersect and make sense when he talked about them. Sarkar is a brilliant thinker, hilarious lecturer, and just and all around charming and lovely person. Give him a chance, and do your reading. You will learn a lot and I promise it will be worth it :)

She's a very nice and intelligent lady, but I didn't find 45 minute long discussions on who updates their Twitter or Facebook more often. This was no film class, all media, so expect that. Ms. Holt knows her stuff, but it's pretty uninteresting unless you're a real media groupie like she is. Easy A, but not so easy to stay awake in.

Proffesor Holt was amazing! Her passion for film made the class engaging, and i made me feel passionate for film as well. I would definitely take another class she teaches. The only downside is all the writing the class required, yet it didn't count as a fulfillment for the writing requirement.

Yes, she is very funny and uses lots of interesting clips to reinforce her lecture (like the Daily show). I had a problem with her because a vast majority of lecture time was her discussing things that weren't relevant. So much so, that we got behind a week and discussion sections became confusing.

Single handedly restored my faith in the film department. I would take any class she taught.

Awesome professor. She is so funny and the way she explains things makes you genuinely interested. You can tell she knows a lot and she loves engaging in discussion with her students. This class made me think outside of the box regarding media. Should be a requirement for EVERYONE at UCSB!

He is a great teacher. Very smart, kinda hard to follow. Over all if you apply the ideas learned in class, it could help you in your life. Overall not an easy class, but great teacher ....

He has a thick accent, which is hard to understand. What I probably don't like the most is that he teaches on the assumption that everyone can learn foreign Indian terms & names on the spot and already understand Indian culture. Very unfair. What's more is that although we watch films weekly, he doesn't test ANYTHING on the films.
