May be one of the most disorganized people for this job. She is in charge of coordinating the lectures and labs for intro bio classes and fails to do so well. The class is over complicated and the lab doesn't match the class at all. During my final she repeatedly screamed out errors she made on the final in a disruptive way. Very negative person.
One of my favorite professors, the intro bio series was very challenging but the portion of it that he taught made me love EEMB. Gives very good real world examples and his midterm was very clear. Looooved this class. Go to lecture & take good notes and it's easy to succeed
I'm a stats major with interest in environmental studies and bio applications of stats, Took his online EEMB 22 class (EEMB W 22), wouldn't do it any other way. The readings are amazing and the discussion is thought provoking. Recorded lectures are great. He was really animated and helpful in office hours.
Professor Even has been one of my favorite teachers at UCSB. His lectures are amazing (and all are recorded). The test was hard, though.
Very disorganized. Overcomplicate concepts in an intro class. The experiments she design barely match lectures. Has a lot of attitudes. Practicals are hard to study for. She really doesn't deserve this job.
Although this was not my favorite subject in the intro Bio series, Evens made this class a lot more interesting. His lectures weren't boring and he was one of my favorite professors so far!
Amazing professor, really cares about how he presents himself. He doesnt just read off of the lecture slides, he engages, and constantly reviews things before beginning the new lecture. Honestly considered switching to ecology just so I could have him as a professor again.
He made even the most boring material seem interesting. I would highly recommend going to lecture; he is very good at explaining things that may not be clear on the lecture slides. The book isn't necessary; everything you need to know is learned in lecture.
Even is one of the best lecturer's in the EEMB/MCDB departments. He makes seemingly dull subjects interesting, and is the most engaging lecturer I have had. Attendance is mandatory in his class as he explains most concepts verbally and does not write a lot on his slides that he tests on.
He makes lectures so enjoyable. He can be a little intimidating, but it just makes listening to lectures easier!
Wish he could teach every class, simply amazing professor.
Many students underestimate ecology because EEMB classes are stereo-typically easier than MCDB. Many pre-med students take this class and end up getting B's and C's because of this underestimation. To get an A, you must attend lecture and understand fundamental concepts behind the biological and physical characteristics that Even presents in class.
Real cool guy, he delivers his material straight to the point, and constantly requires the class to repeat shout out what he just taught as he goes along. Attendance is important because all test material comes from there. Book is not necessary. Tests are multi choice and short response. Def recommend!
I LOVE Dr. Even! Due to unfortunate life events I got a D in the class. I couldn't really study. HOWEVER, I can confidently say that Dr. Even is the best professor you will take here at UCSB.(That might be a little biased but IDGAF) He is the type of professor you go to a University for. He is extremely caring, a fair tester and a simply amazing!!!
Incredible professor. Really cares about teaching and very enthusiastic and funny. Know examples presented in class well and concepts and you will do well. It is not so much about memorizing as it is understanding concepts. Uses life examples and different contexts for test questions. Loved this class so much!!
Dr. Even is an amazing lecturer and is extremely easy to understand. He is funny and genuinely invokes your interest in the subject matter. Although ecology was a little boring (to me) I listened and studied and got an A. Just put in the effort, go to class, and you'll get an A too.
Great Professor! He makes an otherwise boring topic interesting and while attendance is not mandatory, you want to go. His test was tricky but if you go to class and actually study it should not be that difficult.
I loved him soooo much. Dr. Even is exactly why i went to college. I will be taking his upper divisions if not just to hear his jokes. 3 wish they were all this great.
Even is the best biology professor I've had at UCSB. He really cares about his students and gives us all the tools we need to succeed in his class. He makes lectures interesting by giving real-life examples and fun facts. At the beginning of every lecture he does a review about previous material, which is really helpful. Take his class!!
Dr. Even is the best teacher I have ever had. Lectures were so funny and interesting even though I didn't even like the subject matter. He made me appreciate ecology more. Tests were very fair - if you went to class and studied a little you'd get an easy A. If you have a chance to be in Dr. Even's class do it!
Awesome professor who tries really hard and wants his students to succeed. Go to class and print the slides and write down anything additional he says. Go to class and you will pass. Tests make you think critically and apply concepts but he prepares you well. Great professor overall.
He was awesome! He made the class even more interesting than it already was. His enthusiasm sparks a wonderful desire to learn. I loved him as a lecturer and can't wait to take a class with him again.
Best professor I've ever had by far, best class I've taken in college thus far. He's incredibly knowledgable, passionate, and explains everything very clearly. He tells you exactly what to expect and never tries to trick on tests. The lectures are super interesting and he's really funny and charismatic so you're captivated the entire time.
His lectures are extremely clear and interesting. He can be amusing at times. His midterm is moderate in difficulty. He provides alot of help with his computation sets and iclicker questions.
