Wrobel is a kind guy and obviously wants everyone to do well. Lectures not mandatory but attendance is super helpful. Was not here for about little less than half of the weeks because was on leave for new child, made it a little bit challenging but doable. test questions were random sometimes, NOT super easy GE if humanities concept wise.
Very good professor and one of the best I have had at UCSB. If you are a humanities major take this class for your area C credit.
super chill GE mostly just attend lecture. The online version doesn't make as much sense. Hardest part is the labs and depends on the TA you get.
Been my favorite teacher here so far. Class is easy and sheds light on important topics like global climate change. Most importantly, you can tell he's passionate and dedicated towards his students. He's fun, entertaining, and a great guy
Really nice. second class I've taken of his so I knew what to expect. grade is based on very few things so even tho attendance is not mandatory, definitely show up to all lectures and labs.
Wrobel definitely cares about what he teaches. I would have loved the class if I cared more for earth science, but he still made it interesting. Funny and laid back guy
Super nice, easy class.
Just pay half attention and put an effort into your cheat sheet, and it should be an easy A! As a humanities major, this was a lovely GE!
This was a fun GE to take because of how passionate Alex was on the material. For the midterm and final the only studying I did was making the cheat sheets and I was able to do well, but there was some tricky questions. The online weekly quizzes and in-class labs help boost your grade. Just make sure you're actively learning and you should do fine!
good teacher but do not take this as a GE if you want an easy A. The tests were extremely hard even with a cheat sheet. average in this class was a B which should not be normal for a GE
mr alex! what a goat. very humble guy and loves what he does. overall beautiful human. weekly open book quizzes, sections are mandatory but he picks amazing TA's who give out weekly worksheets open book as well, and midterm and final he allowed a cheat sheet. take his class serious and you will pass! love this guy, gonna miss u mr alex
Honestly did not have many expectations coming into this class, I had heard it was "hard" but in my experience it has been pretty chill. He is an amazing lecturer and you can really feel his passion and energy which was quite refreshing. Tests are fine since we are given a cheat sheet. Overall 10/10 class and professor would take again.
Lecture is not mandatory, weekly small section 'labs' are mandatory. Midterm and final were mp with a cheat sheet. Caring and interesting prof, would take again
prof wrobel is great!! he's really caring and is really passionate about what he teaches. The tests were average, but he gave us a cheat sheet. attendance in lectures isn't mandatory, but section is. Sections are labs, but were always pretty quick and easy. Highly recommend for a GE!
TAKE THIS CLASS FOR YOUR SCIENCE GE! I am talking to you, humanities kids. Prof Wrobel makes the content and the concepts VERY accessible to even the most un-science savvy people. Lectures, while lengthy, are useful and he incorperates his life experience into the lectures. Very chill and laidback guy - very little homework, and picks good TAs.
He was great! He genuinely loved what he was talking about and explained the material in a very thorough and understandable way. There was no need for a textbook since the slides were so useful. As long as you pay attention to what he says, take good notes, and study the slides, you will pass this class with no problem. 10/10 professor.
He is great very interesting lecturer.
This is a great class to learn about earths systems through Antarctica. Very clear lectures and labs are pretty helpful. Midterm and Final are multiple choice with a cheat sheet, but honestly if you went to lecture and spend a bit of time looking over slides and your notes you would probably be fine without one. Can get a bit boring at times.
Really nice guy! I felt a disconnect between what we learned in class and what was on the tests even though I always went to lecture, section, and studied hard. This class was unnecessarily hard and the tests basically are your grade. Had to do it P/NP. Also the weekly quizzes are hard… Only take if you're really good at earth science!
I am so grateful I took this course. Professor Wrobel is extremely understanding and compassionate as a professor -- he wants you to get the most out of his course, and was willing to help me out during a difficult academic time when I needed it. His passion and amazing lectures inspired me to love an study the material that much more!!
Alex is a good guy and he genuinely cares about his students. If you're not a stem person, this isn't an easy class. It's doable, but you will have to study harder than your stem friends. 1 cheat sheet, but there are questions that have you “apply your knowledge.”
Super interesting class, not too hard if you go to lecture and take notes. Professor Wrobel is the best and I would recommend him to literally everyone, he made class so fun
Loved this class, it's so chill but it's so interesting! The only issue was the TA's because some of them weren't helpful and whenever I asked for help in section, they sounded confused themselves. He had two mini writing assignments (1 paragraph). You are allowed a cheat sheet but please go over everything and make sure you put anything important.
His last name is Wrobel because he's a W professor!!!! I took this as a science elective for my major and I loved it. The course was easy and he allows cheatsheets on the midterm/final. He is a great lecturer. Would 100% recommend this course to anyone looking for a good science GE or as a List A science elective for CS majors!
