Portuguese - PORT

This course, taught in English, explores literatures and cultures through contemporary film, music, and literature from the Portuguese-speaking world in Africa, focusing on Angola, Mozambique, and Cape Verde. We analyze literary, historical, and political texts to deepen our understanding of post-colonial identities and African societies. Discussions center on anti-colonial struggles, nationhood, colonial legacies, ethnicity, trauma, reconciliation, and utopian/dystopian cultural identities.

Prerequisites: Upper-division standing.
