Examines the contemporary politics of land uprisings and the emancipatory experiments amidst a planetary ecological crisis and a new wave of resourcegrabbing. These land insurgencies in both rural and urban areas are puttingnew social questions and emancipatory alternatives on the political horizonWe start with an overview of the classical theoretical debates on transi- tions within and beyond capitalism along with the struggles of subaltern classes, globalization & ecology. We then shift our attention to an exam- ination of contemporary and historical land uprisings and emancipatory alternatives. We explore the differential weight of race, class, indi- geneity, ethnicity & gender for understanding the global land wars.
