Introduction to coastal landscapes and their formative processes, including: beaches, dunes, barriers, bluffs, estuaries, salt marshes, nearshore bars, marine terraces, etc. Overview of key theories, concepts, models, and research in coastal geomorphology. Applications for understanding real-world issues such as sea-level rise, coastal erosion and flooding, land use planning, and ecosystem restoration will also be explored. Experiential learning via interactive lectures, local field trips, hands-on learning of field methods, and an independent project based on student interests. Depth of topics and scope of projects will differ for the graduate level offering.
