An introduction to public speaking skills for environmental professionals. Students learn how to give a professional talk for a conference or public presentation considering story framework, visual aids, audience, tone, and Q&A. Students practice these skills through individual and group active learning exercises. Students are introduced to examples of effective environmental public speaking ranging from podcasts to TED talks. Students complete class assignments before weekly labs, where they practice speaking in front of peers and receive constructive feedback. Students give a three-minute condensed version of their final presentation and submit two revised lab assignments as part of their public speaking portfolio.

CollegeI've taken two classes with Amanda, & I can't wait to take a 3rd. For the 1st time, I feel like I'm analyzing relevant issues to my life in conjunction with scholarly articles instead of just regurgitating info. She makes every class engaging, interesting, & encourages class discussion. Helpful, relateable, & a fair grader if you put effort in.
Class is extremely interesting and thought-provking! Just make sure you read EVERYTHING and understand. If you don't understand, just ask her! If you interpret things differently, that okay! Just make sure you know the main points she wants you to know. And make sure you actually play your video game. She will know if you don't.
Amanda is great! She is very helpful during office hours (and even beyond office hours). She is so innovative and intelligent (created a facebook page for participation). She has a super cool personality as well, which makes her section MUCH more palatable.
