Problems of the city, (e.g., congestion, homelessness, violence) are examined in light of larger economic and social forces which structure urban life. Through use of slides depicting urban settings, causes and consequences of different ways urban settlements have been organized are considered.

SOC126 . Duck W 7 Days Ago

Really interesting and relevant topics that delve into housing crises and the issues surrounding it. Averaged 3 medium-sized essays, 1 large group project, and a couple writing exams. The reading is heavy, but very enriching. The class environment is lively, Prof Duck is exuberant and I felt drawn in every lecture, his passion is second to none!

SOC185S . Duck W 2 Years Ago

Prof Duck is new-ish to ucsb which is why he doesn't have many ratings. He is a friendly and caring professor. However, although lectures are interesting, he doesn't *teach* too well, as it is hard to grasp what he is talking about sometimes. Easy class though and he wants you to succeed. Go to class and you will understand enough to get an A.

SOC146 . Duck W 2 Years Ago

Prof Duck was a wonderful teacher and like another review said his energy and positivity really is contagious. For an 8am class he actually made the class super enjoyable and is very knowledgeable about all things sociology. Close readings and essays were definitely doeable and TA was nice but a bit more difficult of a grader. Def would take again!

Professor Duck is by far my favorite professor at UCSB. He comes into class with such contagious joy and energy. Very understanding and knowledgable about his field. Though the TA was a tough grader, Professor Duck will let you make up a grade if you go to office hours. Makes an 8 am WORTH IT!
