CollegeThe midterm covered 3 weeks of material, while the final covered the rest of the quarter. Assigned MATLAB hw but wasn't graded. Did not curve - Instead took 5% of grade as 'floating' to put either in final or midterm. It's profs like him and Thrower that make me lose my passion for my major...
This course (and specifically this professor) nearly made me drop my major. Not because of being weeded out, but losing all passion and motivation for the subject. He makes learning based on memorizing, and designs questions deliberately to trip up students. He lacks empathy and encourages failure, rather than success. Good luck. I hate bio now lol
Second half of the class sucks, he is very unclear on what he wants you to know Don't bother listening to anything he says in lecture, just do the weekly assignments + watch the lecture videos yourself. Do the practice exams right before to see what he likes putting on the tests. Memorize stuff based on what's on the practice exams.
Bro had me pulling my hair out all quarter. The actual course material wasn't too difficult, but the way he teaches, wacky grading, & the entire grade being based on exams will do it for you. All I can say is good luck & get started early on the practice exams. Even Anyika ochem didn't do me this dirty
John Lew is incredible. He's very interesting and fun to listen to, but this course is HARD. You have to understand concepts extremely well. But Dr. Lew explains everything clearly and in depth. There's videos, lectures, readings, homework problems, and past exams. Do as much as you can. You'll spend a lot of time studying if you want to do well.
This class was very difficult. His lectures are entertaining. If he tells you not to memorize something like the TCA or glycolysis- he is lying MEMORIZE everything. The weekly quizzes look just like the homework, do well on those they saved my grade. The exams are similar to the practice exams he posts, but do not really reflect the homework.
