A studio course focused on Bartenieff Fundamentals; a somatic movement system developed by Irmgard Bartenieff. Designed to enhance movement efficiency by balancing functional integration with expressive potential, this method will serve as the foundation for our explorations. We will dive into Bartenieff’s six body developmental patterns, eight principles of action, four core themes, and basic six exercises, investigating how they shape movement connectivity, alignment, and energy flow. The course will also emphasize the sociocultural dimensions of movement practices, fostering critical reflection on how movement intersects with identity, community, and culture.
