Forests and other ecosystems are crucial for societal and environmental reasons; nonetheless, they face significant threats across the world. This class explores the economic and political drivers of ecosystem degradation,the solutions that governments and non-governmental actors have implementedto address the issue, and the challenges to their success. Other topics include territorial and political rights of local communities, common-pool resources management, impact evaluation of anti-deforestation policies, andland reforms, among others.
