Modeling and translation into practical FEA using SolidWorks simulation tools. The course focuses on choosing the correct constraints for parts and assembly. Another focus is on moving parts within SolidWorks. If time permits the class considers optimization of mechanical structures based on anticipated loads. This class goes through the cycle of designing, performing FEA, testing and repeat. SolidWorks, including its geometry optimization module, is used in this class as a "calculator". This fulfills the need of industry (SolidWorks), while preparing students to Capstone and other courses.

CollegeProfessor Tsai is the kindest professor and will make accommodations if you're going through tough times. Unlike most professors, he is trying to prepare students for industry. He makes students give PowerPoint presentations for both project proposals and the projects themselves. I felt this course could've gone deeper into FEA (ie Vibrations).
Professor Tsai's ME10 class is exam free, meaning your grade relies on a constant stream of practicing CAD modeling and sketching. He encourages creativity and discussion in the classroom. He always has a cheerful presence and expectations were kept clear. He spends too much time on warm-up type activities. Most students should pass with ease.
Good teacher overall. Class was a decent amount of work, but Tsai is very friendly and easy to talk to. The content is kinda all over the place, not a very focused class. The grading system is really weird; the final is worth next to nothing. Lectures are technically optional, but you will be very confused and miss assignments if you dont go.
Great professor and the class was super fun. Lots of weekly homework assignments, but part of it can be completed in lab every week. Though be ware, I ended up spending a lot of money on this class buying the online text and materials for projects.
Great professor who truly cares about his students
Defenitely an awesome professor! I took professor Tsai's ME 10 in spring and it was a great fun. He explains the subject matter clearly and gives interesting projects weekly for us to work on. Definitely pay more attention to the labs and the website design because they compose a large percent of the grade!
