Please save yourself from taking this class. Unfortunately, this was the only class that would fit into my schedule and I needed bio units to graduate. I would have rather had to take another quarter than take this class. Truly awful.
Incredibly interesting topic somehow made boring and joyless. When I signed up for this class I saw the negative reviews here and thought "how bad can it be? I love the topic so I'm sure I'll enjoy it". I was so wrong. Beware.
The topic of the class had potential. He's very passionate about his work but his presentation of it is boring. He shows a lot of pictures and irrelevant text. It's heavy memorization. You can't tell what you need to know vs. what you don't need to know. Gives a practice midterm that's like the midterm, but the final is difficult. Not worth 3 units
Lectures were very long and boring with the professor saying any random deep sea facts in a dry and uninspiring manner. It was also unsure what to study for quizzes and exams. They were Very Hard! You could study all of the important material presented and slides and he would give you unimportant and very insignificant questions. Avoid this class!
