CollegeProfessor Park may have a tough teaching style, but if you put in the work, you'll learn a lot. The readings can be overwhelming, but resources like Unstuckstudy and study sessions make it manageable. Overall, an engaging class worth taking.
I swear, it feels like he's doing everything in his power to make you drop his class. He's passionate, but it's overshadowed by his dedication to intimidating students. John acts like his lessons are tougher than rocket science. Instead of motivating students to learn, he seems to do the opposite, creating a discouraging environment for students.
Professor Park is sorta like a father figure. He is genuine, smart, deeply passionate about what he does, and is always willing to help you if you need it. If you go to class and at least skim the readings, you shouldn't have trouble passing the class. If you want an A, he makes you WORK for it and with 40 academic readings, it can be overwhelming
Park made it seem like this class was easy, but it wasn't. The readings were hard to get through, and that's saying something since i'm an avid reader. I recommend going to every office hour and ask him detailed questions about the essay prompts.
Professor Park was one of the best professors I've came in contact with at UCSB. The class consisted of three online essays. He was so passionate about the coursework and overall wanted students to be engaged and do well in the class. I would definitely take his class again
The two midterms + final are all in-person timed writes (two timed essays for the final), so beware. I definitely struggled because timed writes aren't my strong suit, but he is truly a nice guy who knows his material in and out. Heavy on reading, which you actually have to do because he expects you to reference them in your essays.
