CollegeTHIS IS FOR EACS 142! Professor Fleming is extremely knowledgeable and you'll learn a ton by taking this class. He likes getting to know his students so definitely go to office hours. He's also very accessible outside of class and replies to emails pretty quickly. He does assign a lot of reading but the materiel is very interesting.
His lectures sometimes seemed slow and off on a tangent but overall great professor that cares for his students.
Loved both profs and looked forward to lectures every week. Readings were manageable and the variety kept it interesting. I was worried about the midterm & couldn't go to office hours, but Prof Fleming met me after class and helped me figure out how to review...ended up doing just fine. More work than most GEs but I also learned alot more.
This prof is one of the best at UCSB. I went to office hours for help and we ended up taking and I found it out he majored in physics in college. He ended up helping me with my physics homework lol I'm not even kidding. Very generous and supportive guy, and is super smart and knows everything without making you feel stupid!
I looked forward to Professor Fleming's lectures, and appreciated his clear slides and the way he paused to emphasize important concepts. The reading was heavier than I expected, but the assignments and quizzes were pretty easy. He was welcoming in office hours and seemed to genuinely enjoy talking with us.
The slides are mostly quotes from the readings, and the summarization of the ideas is superficial. It is hard to grasp the points they want the students to learn after sitting for 1 hour and 15 minutes (I attended most lectures so I am sure to say it.) The rubric for grading on writing assignments is extremely unclear and have no standards.
