CollegeHonestly her 100A is great. A lot of materials and she covered it in great details. The homework sets are not particularly long, and I see her reason for adding problem presentation as one of the assignment. Carlson''s class always offer 5% extra credit for each exam, and the final is only 1 and a half hour long. I did enjoy the class anyways.
After graduating, I can say this is the worst professor I took. Very unaccommodating, long lectures where she rambles without explaining, and overall rudeness. The point of PHYS100A is to prepare you for the upperdiv quantum series (115 series) but after taking this class, I went into 115A feeling unprepared.
Lots of material and she barely covered it all, even without answering many questions in class. Not great, not awful. Makes sure to get the basic concepts down because the class moves quickly. Homework doesn't always correlate to material covered in class.
She talks to herself most lectures. Lectures don't correlate to homework at all. You mainly learn while you do the homework. Exams were pretty fair but not the best. She doesn't ask for questions so you need to ask after class. She clearly knows her stuff but can be difficult to talk to.
There are too many assignments. I prefer Dr. Banta's style of a few difficult problems and second pass where we can revisit the miss-steps for half credit. The jumping around feels jarring and the lectures a rough. I have to do a lot of self teaching. She clearly cares about her students though and promptly answers emails.
Such a boring professor and too many useless assignments.
