CollegeSalmon is an appropriate name, because the lectures are insanely dry. The grading policy is nonsensical - 40% midterm, 60% final. Might as well just make it 50/50, or add other elements that can spare a student's grade. Salmon is a relic of the past that has great knowledge, but ruins a student's learning experiencing by reducing them to a letter.
Salmon is without a single doubt the worst professor of philosophy that I have encountered. He seems to know the material quite well but is unable to communicate this to the students effectively due his inflated ego (He even made his own wikipedia page). I cant speak for all classes; however, i'd avoid taking this class with him if at all possible.
It is strikingly obvious that Nathan teaches without a lesson plan. This leads to unnecessary tangents and necessary material to be explained out of order. A good portion of lectures are wasted as he strokes his ego and talks down to students. It is beyond me that he has enough friends to form his subpar band. Truly a horrible professor. Avoid.
Salmon is a fantastic lecturer and makes a really difficult subject much easier to understand. I really struggled in the first part of the quarter and was worried I was going to fail, but because of his replacement policy I ended up doing just fine. He is more than willing to help if you are struggling.
I had him for 116 and 183 - he is extremely difficult. Very brilliant man, but does not seem to want to get to know his students. I would avoid taking this class with him if possible!
Very difficult class that should ONLY be taken by philosophy/math/comp sci majors. Professor Salmon is very brilliant in his discipline but has trouble elucidating some of the most fundamental concepts of logic. Be prepared for a rigorous lesson in a difficult subject!
