This course focuses on the emergence of the modern city and of urban experience from the 19th to the 21st century. The city can be a space of anonymity, freedom, and loneliness, as much as a place of connection and exciting possibilities. Architecture and the organization of space produce different behaviors, types of perception, and subjectivity. Above all, the modern metropolis is spectacular, and continually offers things to see to the eye.

ENGL122UE . Boscagli M 1 Year, 8 Months Ago

Lectures are ok but what makes her class so infuriating is that there is zero online correspondence. The responses everyone does are on different days and she only tells you your assigned days once at the beginning of the quarter. Idk why she doesn't use Canvas for an online class but it makes the class much less enjoyable.

She was very nice assuming you cared about the class even a little bit. Class was a discussion section every time with about 20 students. We had some good discussions and I don't feel that she was ever rude or unfair. Really enjoyed the course material and it changed the way I see cityscapes.

Professor Boscagli wasn't the most pleasant professor to have. Often cut students off when they were talking, and when correcting students would come off as a little rude and patronizing. It was also never clear what we were supposed to take from each lecture. This is the class that you struggle to show up to - a typical mediocre professor/class.

no slides, extremely lecture heavy. assigned readings every week and need to read many full books but what she discusses in lecture is most important. at the same time, lecture put me to sleep. 1 midterm 1 final and 1 essay. also heavy on poetry. if you can, find another literature credit class. a hard A to get.

I was super worried about this class and almost dropped it, but I'm so glad I didn't. It can take some time to get used to the lack of slides in addition to the strong accent, but it's not too bad. Go to lecture, read (the texts are amazing), and MAKE A STUDY GROUP!!!!!!! Seriously! Sharing notes and studying together will be a lifesaver

Nowhere to submit assignments on Canvas, so don't forget to email them to her at a random, unclear due date.
