CollegeThe professor was knowledgeable about the material and students are fortunate to conduct fieldwork. However, there is a sharp discrepancy when it comes to grading the 3 papers for this class, and it seemed as though the TA was very poorly-prepared. Expect to lose points for things that were not mentioned in unclear and vague rubrics.
Great class for the summer ONLY if you are taking with no other commitments. Professor was not helpful when asked about lecture material. Papers are graded very harshly and only 2 people in the class get As so they have quotas to meet. Highly recommend for those interested in EEMB grad school, otherwise don't waste your time and tank your GPA.
The best class I ever took at UCSB. Keep in mind the material is fairly difficult and goes fast in the summer. But all of the experiences and class and lab reports are one of a kind. This is an easy take if you want to spend time outside engaging with several ecosystems and their various beachside life.
This class was the best I've taken at UCSB. Bob and Mark were awesome and I highly recommend this class! It is a lot of work though.
Favorite class by far at UCSB! Every lab is a day at the beach and the 4 day Santa Cruz Island trip is amazing. 3 Lab reports a midterm and final, the work isn't too much to handle for summer and it helps that the class is so much fun. Easily recommended to everyone! Also, the TA is amazing...and looks pretty good in short shorts.
This was a great class to take over the summer, really hands-on with everything you do in here! Every lab was a beach day, which was great. The TA was AWESOME, the professor was clear, the material was easily comprehended. Best of all the field trips were fun , educational and you really learn a lot. 3 lab reports, 1 midterm, 1 final :) not bad.
