Explores the historical contexts that shaped the varieties of African American religious thought, practices, and communities that developed from the trans-Atlantic slave trade to the present. Topics explored can include how iterations of African American religion responded to and were transformed by slavery, migration to American cities, the rise of ethnic identity, civil rights, and new art forms that became representative of Black humanity, creativity, and resistance.
