This course trains future environmental managers regarding human-driven disturbances to biogeochemical cycling of carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, sulfur, and trace elements in relationship to greenhouse gas-driven climate change, ocean acidification, stratospheric ozone depletion, acid rain, acid mine drainage, air/water/soil pollution, and human and ecological health, among other issues. Additional topics include persistent organic pollutants, pesticides, emerging contaminants, microplastics and other chemicals. The course covers basic principles with applications to environmental problems, human and ecological toxicological implications, and available technical and policy solutions including potential unintended consequences.

I've taken two classes with Amanda, & I can't wait to take a 3rd. For the 1st time, I feel like I'm analyzing relevant issues to my life in conjunction with scholarly articles instead of just regurgitating info. She makes every class engaging, interesting, & encourages class discussion. Helpful, relateable, & a fair grader if you put effort in.

Class is extremely interesting and thought-provking! Just make sure you read EVERYTHING and understand. If you don't understand, just ask her! If you interpret things differently, that okay! Just make sure you know the main points she wants you to know. And make sure you actually play your video game. She will know if you don't.

Amanda is great! She is very helpful during office hours (and even beyond office hours). She is so innovative and intelligent (created a facebook page for participation). She has a super cool personality as well, which makes her section MUCH more palatable.
