Online course that addresses a number of fairy tales & related films. It examines the ways in which tales of wonder provide a metaphoric context for human adaptation and interpretation. Fairy tales evoke themes of childhood, development, & home, as well as critical methods including structuralism and psychoanalysis. Through a focus on films, presented weekly for screening, along w/ relevant descriptive, theoretical, & literary texts, we take a critical approach to fairy tales. You will be required to respond to writing prompts related to a weekly screening, write weekly forums along w/ a midterm & final for the course. Your active participation in the course activities & attendance for the synchronous portions of the course are essential.

Prerequisites: Film Studies 46 or upper-division standing.
