This lecture-based course provides an overview of material structure- property relationships, processing, and characterization techniques for metals, polymers, and ceramics. We discuss the unique design constraints imposed by the human body and discuss strategies to enhance biocompatibility. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on applicationsof biomaterials engineering in medical devices.
