I wouldn't recommend him, 3 papers with ambiguous criteria, no EC, and necessarily strict for a GE.

I wouldn't say he was a bad professor, but he didn't really strike a chord with me either. He grades the class on a curve, the grading guidelines for the papers were ambiguous. and, there were online quizzes and only three papers to rely on. If you get a bad TA, you're pretty much out of luck.

Not a bad professor but grades on a curve, which I think for this entry level of a class is unnecessary. You only have 3 papers and some online quizzes and the guidelines for the paper are ambiguous. You can get lucky and get a TA that doesn't suck but if you got a bad TA, you are pretty much out of luck. I personally wouldnt take him again.

The problem sets could take up about 12-14 hrs each, but they were not too difficult. Just do not skip lecture and do the readings till about week 6 where they start to become unhelpful.

POLS15 . 1 Year, 5 Months Ago

Stein is a funny professor that actually cares about how he sets up and teaches POL S 15. We had four problem sets and a research proposal that ultimately was made optional, plus section attendance. Going to lecture helped because he explained most of the concepts pretty well, even if they weren't the most engaging at times

Not the worst professor, kind of funny at times but being graded on 3 papers on an entry-level GE with no wiggle room to rewrite and arbitrary grading criteria is not a good idea. He grades on a bell curve (he only gives out As to 20 percent of students) which is unnecessary for a polisci class.
