The role of physics in biology through quantitative measurements and modeling, the organization of a cell, and exemplary quantitative results of biological model systems. The physics of biologically relevant macromolecules, including DNA, RNA and mechanisms of transcription and translation; introduction to protein folding and the role of electrostatics in biology. The physics of the cytoskeleton including beam theory, persistence length, molecular motors, instrumentation used to characterize motor properties, as well as the role of active stresses in cell biology. If time permits, a brief introduction to cell motility and the structure of epithelial tissue.

PHYS139 . 3 Months Ago

Prof. Saleh is extremely intelligent, but also super down-to-earth. I feel extremely lucky to have taken his class. Go to office hours, attend lectures, and you will succeed.

PHYS139 . 1 Year, 3 Months Ago

He is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches, which makes lectures entertaining and very much worth attending. He also dabbles in self deprecating humor, making him likeable as a person. He is a bit disorganized at times, (not terrible). After refining his curriculum, this will likely fade. A very promising start to PHYS 139

MATRL100A . 11 Years Ago

Good professor. He's smart and his lectures are enjoyable. Homework was easy (assigned out of the book) and tests were easy. overall an easy class.

Tests are not difficult but favor over-justification. Omar seems highly knowledgeable and is able to adress most in-class questions. Would take a class of his again.
