Experimental methods of interrogating electronic ground states and phase behaviors in inorganic materials are presented. Examples include heat capacity, spin susceptibility, electrical/thermal transport, Raman, and spin resonance techniques. The fundamental physics and materials properties underlying each technique are be taught and illustrated by the states/phase behaviors accessible by each.
