We’re looking for a talented UI Designer! DM @iamjiamingliu on Instagram

This is a course about laughter in ancient Greece and Rome. We will discuss ritual laughter, enjoy the Dionysian frivolity of Aristophanes and Plautus, appreciate the elegant humor of Menander and Terence, and read the jokes from Philogelus? collection. This exploration offers an opportunity to ask questions about the nature of laughter: Why do we laugh? What are the functions of laughter? Is humor universal or determined by cultural circumstances?

CLASS130 . Dutsch D 11 Years Ago

Her lectures are very boring and monotone, not very interesting if you weren't previously interested in the topic. There are weekly quizzes, all multiple choice on the readings. If you do take this class, I recommend taking it pass/fail unless you want to do a ton of excessive readings on plays

You can tell Professor Dutsch loves what she's teaching. Her lectures were always intriguing & she responded to emails QUICKLY. There were weekly discussions & quizzes both pretty easy. For the final, you could either write a creative essay (your choosing) or propose your own question and use readings from the class to support it. 10/10 recommend

She's absolutely lovely. Quizzes are as easy as she can make them--she wants you to pass. She's very energetic and brings zazz to topics that could otherwise be very dry. If you don't know something when she calls on you, she'll help you out a LOT rather than make you feel embarrassed. I'll miss her class!

I took her joint seminar about Latin America with Professor Lupi and found it interesting! Professor Dutch is passionate about her subjects and fills her lectures with interesting anecdotes about historical figures, myths, and stories that brought Ancient Rome to life.

CLASS106 . Dutsch D 8 Years Ago

Prof. Dutsch was enjoyable, but I do not recommend this class as a GE unless you have a background in ancient history or greek myth. She teaches towards the classics majors and it's hard to stay focused during lectures. You have freedom on the papers but the final exam required memorization of lots of readings, authors and dates. No thanks.

LATIN1 . Dutsch D 8 Years Ago

She was a pretty good teacher but the class was SO hard IMO. I wanted to like latin but it was taught SO fast and was 2 years in 10 weeks. 2-3 quizzes a week but she was a nice grader. Midterm not too bad but the final was hard.
