Chen is very passionate about what he does and wants you to succeed but lectures are dry and hard to follow. Took this class for an Area C and there wasn't much math on the exams but the weekly homework is math heavy and often confusing formulas. However, the TA Alec was so helpful and did a lot of the heavy lifting in making the content clear.

Chen is a good person but the class was incredibly difficult to follow. Unnecessary information on slides, hardly any bullet points, and it felt like the TA did all the teaching in the class. Midterm and Final had information not even mentioned in class and several details one would only know if they were a geology major.

This prof has a very heavy accent, sections are sometimes helpful. Took it for science credit, would not take it again.

Although Professor Chen has a strong Chinese accent, it does not interfere with the lecture a lot. He gives slides and images for students to understand, so it is not too hard to understand the course material. The exams are not hard at all as long as you attend the lecture. I would even recommend to take the class for credit.

I have never been a student to fall asleep in lecture but gosh his lectures are super boring. The good thing is he posts them on gaushospace right after. Quizzes in section and lecture are for participation. The homework is kind of hard but the TA is helpful.

He has a very thick Chinese accent which makes things difficult when it came to more confusing material. The TA goes over vital information which makes everything more clear. Lectures can get a little stale and he tries to get the class to participate but it didn't work... still an interesting class though. Attendance taken for lecture & section!
