Fantastic lectures! The best intro to sociology ever! If you can somehow take this course with Prof. Rawlings, you should!

@ Duke. From reviews below, if people's metric for who a good professor is, is how easy is to get an A and not how they teach, they go to the wrong school. Rawlings is so intelligent and kind. He's incredibly well read and shows so much interest in wanting everyone to suceed. The point of this class is to learn and he makes sure you do that.

@ Duke. To be honest, went into this class with a mindset of an "easy A" that I feel that was mirrored in many other students. Dr. Rawlings really makes the student understand that no course is an easy course, and I feel that even if I might not receive the grade I wanted, I have learned more from this class than any of my classes I took this sem.

@ Duke! One of the finest professors at Duke. He's funny, will do impressions, learn everyone's name. A lot of people were sad after the election and he let us go early. People complain below about 'trick questions' but he gives you space to explain and TAs will usually grade you up if your logic is sound. FLUNCH him!

there was a disconnect between material covered in class and the exams, as well as between the professor and the TA's when they graded the exams. He is a good lecturer, but students felt quite frustrated with the exams he said there wouldn't be trick questions but there were always questions everybody felt more than one answer could be correct.
