This course is built around experimental design, data analysis, and quantitative modeling of biological processes and phenomena. Topics including experimental design considerations and a priori assumptions, probability, dimensional reduction, hypothesis testing, statistical analysis, and quantitative modeling through ordinary and partial differential equations. Case studies of recent and classic research papers in Bioengineering are used to illustrate key course topics through class discussions.

Prerequisites: At least one undergraduate course in biochemistry/cell biology and differential equations, or consent of the instructor.

CHE120C . Dey S S 7 Months Ago

Professor Dey is a solid lecturer, I just got absolutely devastated by his exams. Mass transfer is a difficult class and he does a good job of being accessible for office hours outside of class, so go to those if you want to survive the class with a desire to continue the ChemE degree.

CHE120A . Dey S S 4 Years Ago

Dey lectures using examples from the textbook, but unlike the textbook his explanations are thorough and easy to follow. I also appreciated how neat and well-written his notes were. Homework assignments were short. Two midterms and one final, with inconsistent difficulties. I look forward to taking him again in 120C.

Very nice and helpful professor. Studying the textbook really well is essential to pass the exams.

He lectures by following the textbook. His tests are pretty straightforward as well.

Lectures are just verbatim from the book (which is horrible itself and deserves a 1/5 on it's own regard) and no conceptual understanding of the material is a part of the instruction. I wish I could retake this class with another professor because I'm afraid that I don't actually understand the material (nor does anyone else).
