This seminar will explore cognitive approaches to the study and practice of writing. Students will be introduced to the multidisciplinary study of cognition and its application in composition and literary studies. Through selected readings and seminar discussions, we will examine the historical context of cognitive studies and what a ‘4E cognition' approach can contribute to the study of writing, literacy development, and transfer. This course will also invite students to reflect on their own writing and reading practices and develop a deeper awareness of their thinking and learning processes to carry with them through their UCSB studies.

CollegeTerrible lecturer. There was so much useless work during the lecture, and the grading was horrible and unbelievable (always return the work and need to adjust the work for any tiny mistakes). The instructor gave a lot of feedback, but it did not help a lot in adjusting the writing. The lecture is always writing (99% writing, 1% lecturing).
This class was super boring. SOO much work to still only receive a B. She seems to mean well but still DONT take this class.
beware! she only allows you to get a B in the class if you turn everything in. heavy breather. she gives a lot of feedback and praise but doesn't reflect that in grading! she's very repetitive in assignments/readings/lectures/etc. limited time to do a lot of work. 0/10 don't recommend
She piles up readings/assignments and makes an easy requirement a horrible experience. She is one of the only teachers that keeps you in class for the full 2 hours and she fills the class with pointless activities. This is supposed to be an easy requirement class but it was filled with so much busy work I felt as if I was in high school.
While the assignments are not graded as long as you do all of the assignments and attend the lectures you should be able to receive at least a B. They are very important in building the final portfolio. She is very caring and gave back good feedback. Very easy class for those who need to take writing 2.
Zisa is nice and gives feedback, however this class is just not it. She uses "contract grading" so you don't get any actual grades until the very end, which is ridiculous. I put more effort into this class than my STEM major ones, received high praise all quarter, and in the end was handed a seemingly arbitrary grade. Class is mandatory and BORING.
